They came from the historical era when the church came under attack from invaders. The church had to raise its own army to defend itself. What you see now are just representations of the old army of the Church. They don't teach anything different from what the Church teaches. They are now welfare societies of the Church and during special occasions of the Church, they just demonstrate how prepared they are to defend the church with those symbolic swords and parades. If they were doing anything different from the teachings of the Church, I can assure you, the Church will come after them. There have been occasions where some of them have tried shrouding their activities and they were either called to order or disbanded. Those are internal matters the public will never hear about.
