In February 2023, eight young men, including a 12-year-old boy, were murdered in Bawku, yet the National Peace Council (NPC) remained silent. Since the resurgence of conflict in 2021, the NPC has continued to be unresponsive, even in light of events such as the enskinment of a supposed rival traditional ruler and his smuggled reentry into Bawku.

Many Ghanaians, including ourselves, believed that the NPC had effectively ceased to exist. However, it is perplexing that just seven days after a change in government, this unusual entity has reemerged. Is the NPC only active when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is in power, or has it taken a side in the ongoing conflict? We find their comments to be offensive and biased. It would be better for them to remain silent, as they have since 2021.
