There is a saying that “ be careful about what you wish for, or you may end up owing it”! NDC Sam George’s private member bill on LGBTQ+ was a political poison pill for Akuffo Addo, but he adeptly avoided signing the legislation. Now NDC president Mahama may be forced to swallow the pill. Now Haruna Iddrisu thinks he has an anecdote for the negative consequences of Mahama signing the bill. Ghanaians overwhelmingly support the legislation. The push back would be from powerful organizations outside Ghana. The Uganda example is instructive. We dare Mahama to sign the legislation??
Lesson: culture wars iare not good for any pluralistic society.
Recommendation: allow the legislation to remain in a comatose condition. It won’t help our democracy. and society.
