  Can you please stop talking about foreign direct investments? This is the major problem of our economy. You think it does us good, but thats an archaic thinking. In 2025 , FDi does more harm to a country like Ghana. Think about it. They repatriate all their profits in dollars; more pressure on our currency . They make money in our country and take it away. The focus should be on opening, sustaining , strengthening and promoting local businesses . When Ghanaians make money, the money remains here. It is re invested here. This remains one of the best ways to truly stabilize our currency or even have it appreciate against the dollar . Not FDIs.
  
  How many jobs does FDIs give us in a year anyway? In 2023 , FDI net inflows stood at 1.7275% of Ghana’s GDP. Only 1.7% of our GDP!!! According to the GIPC, in the first half of 2024, FDI projects amounted to 179million dollars which was projected to create 8500 jobs when fully operational. These numbers are really nothing to celebrate . When we strengthen and promote local businesses, tons of new jobs will be created; jobs way more than this within a year. Spare parts dealers will open more branches and employ more hands; same as the bakeries etc. And ultimately at the end of the year , profits from these businesses will remain in Ghanaian banks ; not exchanged into dollars and paid to an offshore account

We’re queuing for gas/petrol in 2016 amid an ongoing dumsor; economic growth was on a downward trend and the currency in free fall. Is that the situation today?
