She should only count herself LUCKY, by the grace of the clearing agent, to have been not only the 1st Lady but in addition, a presumed symbol of the charm of Ghanaian womanhood (which she failed) as well as a highly placed representative of the overly scorned (thanksq to her kind) Ga people.

Misconducting herself in a manner akin to what one can only find in the deepest and darkest depths of the most deprived sectors of Accra, at the highest level of officialdom, will only reinforce the widespread disrespect that the Ga people of Accra have been complaining of and are so angry about.

I cannot imagine any first Lady anywhere unceremoniously storming off on her own without her husband after such a historical event, simply because adverse remarks had been made about her husband. It becomes obvious that after 8 years as 1st Lady, she did not learn anything about political diplomacy and how to conduct oneself in high class society. It again, for the 2nd consecutive day, exposed the obvious collapse of the State Protocol Dept too.

I imagine that her husband might have been extremely embarrassed by her miscomportement but knowing him, he might probably just have guffawed it away.

1. I guess we all know that Rebecca Akuffo Addo is of Ga origin.

2. I also presume that anybody who has got his head properly screwed on and eyes wide open in this country, knows that, for better or for worse, Gas are by nature, brash, belligerent, bitchy (when they are women) and no-nonsense, à la Rebecca. In the Ga community, the more popular women openly boast by vigorously thumping their chests about how quarrelsome, insulting and fearless they are. Likewise, their male counterparts are also proudly belligerent and do not take any kind of antagonism with a smile. Why do you think most of our best boxers are of Ga extraction or, why H.E. Mahama built the now famous Bukom Boxing Arena right in the heart of Accra?

All the above typical ethnic (not tribal) Ga traits are, and for good reason, severally multiplied in the more deprived communities in Accra. They are proud and happy to be so. Just like other ethnic groups - in fact all peoples all over the world are happy to be what they distinctively and instinctively are with their peculiar traits. And by the way, are you aware that the Ga people are basically fisherfolk? Well then, go to any fishing community anywhere in the world and see if their social norms and attitudes are any different.

Sure, the unhealthy traits of tribalism and racism do exist all over the world but we shouldn't get too paranoid about it whilst we try to fix the problems they create.

Perhaps in Kazakhstan where you probably come from, there are no such ethnic distinctions but here in Accra where I was born and raised, wo yee gaba.ni wo shee moko moko gbeye. Ke ofee lehu wo baa yi bo. It is finished.

I have said it many times before that Bagbin is not performing well as Speaker of Parliament. He is undisciplined and hence unable to maintain law and order in parliament. There have been many occasions when parliamentarians were misbehaving in the house without the intervention of the Speaker.

The first lady was right in accusing the Speaker for not doing his job. Irrespective of what we all think of Akufo Addo he was invited by the Speaker to address the house. It was therefore wrong of the Speaker to sit there and not intervene when a member of the house was trying to ridicule the President in front of Diplomats and other invited guests.

Furthermore, there was a total lack of order when Alexander Afenyo-Markin tried to address the house. Once again the speaker was unable to maintain order in the parliament. I personally think it will be a grevious mistake to re-elect Bagbin again as Speaker. It's high time we start treating each other with respect not the least in our national parliament. We need a Speaker who can maintain law and order in the house.
