What has happened is that Mahama was on level grounds with Ghana, walking at 3.9 steps and paying our debt but Akufo Addo took us deep down the shaft and now doubling his steps to get out of the pit to level ground. Until Ghana gets back to level ground and starts paying its debt, any growth, no matter the size is useless. It's like a father owning 3.9 houses and paying his debt to his neighbors whilst another owned 7.2 houses and on its knees begging his neighbors that he cannot pay his debt and actually going ahead to deferring the debt to pay them after fifteen years leading to the death of his neighbors who credited him the money like Dr Agyekum of KAMA group of companies. If you're the son of these two fathers, which of them will you be proud of talking to your colleagues about? These shameless comparisons make no sense. In any case, all of these things were said and the people of Ghana sent you packing in the most disgraceful manner. So to what effect? You cannot wash a dirty pig and present it as the sacrificial white lamb, the gods will not accept it. It is still that pig we know. Ghanaians know their white lamb and have decided. No amount of whitewashing will work. We know Akufo Addo came to loot and nothing more.

Curious enough, he doesn't say how he will pay for government bills without resorting to more borrowing. We wait to see. Debt burden and revenue shortfalls weigh heavily on the country because only few people pay income taxes. Majority of our business people don't or under declare their wealth without any consequences. Efficient collection of revenue is a big challenge for GRA and our parliament has not given enough bitting teeth for an important organization like GRA. If tax collection targets aren't met, the country will depend on borrowing to pay the bills. Only a populist and incompetent government will shy away from serious revenue mobilisation.
