"Due process" - in this country? Are you joking or are you on some mind altering substance? And you have the guts to rather belittle the genuine Ghanaians who are worried about the substandard services that the overwhelming number of victims of this problem are complaining about. Again it is rather people like you, who like the proverbial ostrich, refuse to see nation-wrecking problems even when such is staring at them in the face - only because you very likely benefit from such backward conduct.
Let me tell you my story. Roughly a couple of years ago I fell ill and was taken to the UGMC. Before then, I had never been to the place and I was instantly amazed by the grandeur of the architecture and physical arrangement of the place. I was however expecting the typical shabby and untrained services of medical staff- especially the nurses, that has become normal in this country. Much to my shock and disbelief, both the doctors and other categories of staff - even the security staff outside, showed exemplary and above par performance and assistance during the several days that I subsequently attended the hospital as an outpatient.
I thus became an unofficial free-lance marketing agent for the hospital. As a person who has been around some, I recommended the hospital to virtually everyone I knew with the morale-boosting encouragement that the UGMC was as good as any other of its kind in the world - and I meant it. My only reservation was that I wondered how long this mirage would last before things started falling apart and falling to the appalling standards of other simar institutions around the country.
True enough, in recent times I had begun to hear adverse reports about the UGMC, not only from the public domain but also from reliable family and friends whose opinions are above reproach.
We cannot possibly allow this fantastic multimillion dollar facility to go down the drain as a result of the misdemeanors of a few unprincied and uncultured medical staff whose worth amount to only an infinitesimal fraction of the facility. We must all, first of all admit that cracks are beginning to show and as tax-paying citizens whose money built the hospital, it is our collective effort that will ensure that the hospital remains a world-class institution of pride and excellent service.
From an unqualified distance, I would chance to suggest that the waning services of the hospital would fall directly at the doorstep of the HR dept. To maintain the prestige of such a high value asset, they must, as any equal institution anywhere in the developed world would do, adopt a .merciless hire and fire policy. Anything less than this will not stem the decay. For starters, no applications or recommendations from friends and family of existing staff - including the CEO, should be entertained. They could also have a complaints section on their website.
Finally, our medical training institutions should Inculcate into their curriculum the teaching of medical services. What in recent times they give us in return for what we pay them to do for us is not only unsatisfactory but also unfair.
Finally, finally, I do not know where the UGMC gets the funding from to run such an extravagant facility but wherever they get their money from, they should get more to pay staff who are of world class standards befitting the hospital.

It is quite unfortunate a staff of the UGMC has given the public opportunity to tarnish it image.
The facility is a centre of excellence and for that matter each and everyone has the right to demand quality of care from its staff.
Meanwhile, it is also very unfortunate the way some people who have access to the mass media decide to do away with channels of expressing grievances and rather resort to social media to tarnish the image of facilities and personalities. Are all reports from journalists valid and reliable? Did the originator report the incident to the authorities?
Those insulting the staff of the facility and generalizing the action or inaction of the staff in the complaint, have you validated Miss Otoo's claim?
You are enemies to the progress of our beloved country anytime you don't think through and exhaust due processes but rather resort to social media.
The painful aspect is when originators get to know the truth hardly do they come back to make the public aware.
Please, let us stop talking down our institutions and personalities.
Validate before you critique or criticise.
If you will not recognise the nurse, then done post about the event because managers can't deal with hearsay.
Next time report the incident to help build the facility than to send the matter to the court of public opinion.
There are hundreds of good staff in the facility.
By the way most of the time Newton's third law apply.
To every action there is each but opposite reaction. Miss Otoo what did you do?

Report to which authority and where will it gets to? Public outburst like this one is an effective tool to bring the change we all want. If they don't want their matter in the public domain, they will do things rightly. If I should share my own eye witness stuff about the facility Ghanaians will shock.

But this is no surprise, anaaa? It’s a typical Ghanaian office culture. If the television sets are not loud, it’s about unethical practices. Last time at Kumasi airport, a staff of passion air leisurely sat down after security check and whisked her fingers for me to show her my boarding pass. She saw nothing wrong when I queried her if that was the best way to attend to passengers and clients of her company. I am going to send a formal complaint to management very soon. Our work ethics is nothing to write home about and this is one critical reason most foreigners take over our businesses.

My mother passed away there. I found them suspicious of showing negligence in their work. Ghana is in a mess. These people receive pay but people start to pay bribes and dole out moneies so that their patients would be better taken care of by these nurses. I pity these nurses because their end in a hospital will be miserable that what they push on present patients they have to take care of. My mother who was a very peaceful person told one nurse that she will slap her. This how bad this place has become.

So, i trust every dissatisfied services must be reported to the appropriate unit or office.
Sr. Bridget what did you do about it first, ? You cannot also generalise obe person's error.
Everything is not social media because you don't share your errors in personal life on social media.
You should have reported this to the appropriate quarters first but diverting the issue here ,to me is not fair.
Someone also said she was allergic to some drug and it was given to her.# madam before is drug is administered or prescribed, the doctor will definitely ask about your allergies but if u remain quiet and its prescribed and served you will react. Also, we have drug side effects that most people experience often.
So, if you have serious concerns like this kindly report to the legit unit.
Let's remember, no personnel at the facility is perfect.
Thank you.

Doctors at the hospital conduct trial and error procedures. After spending almost 1 million cedis to save my mother, she still passed away. They wrote numerous prescriptions, claiming to have administered various medications, but I believe it was all lies. Their behavior was unprofessional and cruel throughout the entire process.
After my mother's death, they forced me to remove her body from the hospital within 30 minutes, without offering any help in securing a hearse for me to rent. They handled her body with no respect after taking all that money from us. I feel that anyone who took our money and failed to provide proper medical treatment will face the same painful fate that my mother did.
