I disagree with Dr. Aubyn. These galamsey criminals are operating in plain sight, so why can't the force of the law be used to get them off the lands? Government officials have demonstrated nothing but corruption when it comes to tackling galamsey. Some corrupt Police officers alert the galamsey criminals when raids are about to be carried out; crooked officials benefit from the seizure of galamsey excavators; corrupt chiefs, corrupt Members of Parliament and corrupt business persons are the sponsors of galamsey, often getting their way by bribing the authorities to look the other way. There's no reason why the government can't use the military and Police to fight the galamsey criminals. Sending a few Police officers to galamsey pits only to have them attacked by armed galamsey bandits is a poor way of fighting galamsey. The government has to send in a force that will stand no chance of being attacked by galamsey bandits, and that calls for sending in large numbers of military and Police officers as a show of force. Any government that claims the use of force against galamsey bandits isn't going to work is a mere apologist for galamsey operators.
