  It's time to end the suffering of football lovers in Ghana - and I am not taking about 'regular football fans'. I was on assignment in the Kwahu Mountains when the Black Starlets won the FIFA U-17 World Cup Champions in 1991 Almost everyone came out to celebrate: young and old, boys and girls.. You should have been there to see old and I mean VERY OLD MEN AND WOMEN joining in the celebrations!!!.
  
  The problem with Ghana football is systemic which requires structural changes at the institutional and processes level.
  
  
  Whoever is appointed Minister of Sports in 2025 should dissolve the GFA immediately. The way I see it, the GFA is a self-serving fraternity which seeks to promote the interests of its members. The Minister should thereafter appoint an Interim Management Team (members of the previous Interim Management Team should be excluded) to fashion out STRUCTURES AND PROCESSES to govern Ghana football. Of course FIFA will not be too happy! Membership should include a broad spectrum of stakeholders including academia, GJA/Sports Writers Association, Ghana Bar Association (preferably with expertise in football law), Attorney General's Department etc. Meanwhile Government should approach FIFA to second an expert from a well established FA like the English or the German bundesliga to provide technical advice.
  
  My expectations are: 1). Qualifications for GFA positions e.g. President etc should be broadened and roles and responsibilities well-defined. The GFA is by and large a business entity and be treated as such. 2). The 'electorate' of the GFA should be expanded to make it extremely difficult for a small group of persons to be 'influenced/motivated' to vote in a particular direction.
  3). The process of preparation, submission, approval and administration of budgets by the GFA to the Ministry of Sports should be well defined. There should be no room for TIN-GODS. Imagine the Ministry of Finance after approving budgets from the Ministry of Education deciding where teachers should be posted! 4). The roles and responsibilities of the Black Stars Management should be subject to public scrutiny - e.g. who has the final say as to when a footballer should be kicked out of camp, are there sacred cows?
  5). Composition of the Black Stars. The current team should be disbanded. A new CORE TEAM COMPRISING LOCAL TALENT preferably aged below 25 should be formed. Foreign based players with specific skills can then be invited to fill identified gaps. For example Manchester City striker Erling Haaland plays a specific role, he is not expected to go looking for opportunities in midfield. 6). Arrangements should be made to camp the core team regularly in order to improve skills, set pieces and overall team spirit. 7). Local coaches should undergo regular training. Their training sessions could be timed to coincide with the camping of the Black Stars core team.
  
  If the decision to retain coach Otto Addo is upheld, he should be sent abroad to acquire further skills and to come up with well-defined strategy.
