The problem with these think tankers is that they always look at the problem with only one eye instead of a general assessment. All of a sudden, the IES has conveniently forgotten the immense financial burden the take or pay arrangement by the Mahama administration brought on the current government. Again, with overcapacity of 100% as at 2016 coupled with the dubious take or pay arrangement, how was the government going to be able to finance existing debts in addition to replacing worn out equipment, enhance generation efficiency and purchase crude and gas to power these plants? These were the real issues during the Mahama dumsor era that he needed to address, but he rather chose the most convenient and populist way out.

Also bexause oir demand shot up significantly, payment for part not taken is actually very small.

Npp increased generation capacity from 4k plus to 5k plus so if we jad ober xapacity and were paying for untilizes capacity, why did npp go ajead to add almost 1Gw to the grid
