They upgraded kumasi airport so that the Ashantehene and the political class can travel by air instead of travelling on the five hour dangerous road which claims life's daily and the masses are happy because they've got an airport. Shithole country, always doing the wrong things in helping the people. Let's wait and see how this airport will last.

KUMASI AIRPORT RUNWAY IS 1994M long" (Info from Flightradar 24).
The plane that landed a few days ago at Kumasi Airport could not have been fully loaded because the pilots would have needed to break very hard during touchdown. Flying into Kumasi using a 737 in bad weather would not give much safety margin at all.
You don't have to be an aircraft engineer to figure this one out.

As already stated above, landing conditions at Kumasi Airport is far from ideal and could be very hazardous if the plane is fully loaded (implying a need for a longer runway for it to safely land) Put bluntly the runway at Kumasi Airport is not long enough for a 737 or bigger jets.
Flying a plane half full would not be economically viable or profitable so this looks suspiciously like a gimmick. I would be convinced if the runway was lengthened from its current 6540 feet up to 8000 feet long. (Tamale Airport in contrast is just over 11000 feet long!)
Zack 1 year ago
The runway at Kumasi airport is approx. 2.4 Km long. You can check this from wikipedia so I don't really know what you mean by "far from ideal" landing conditions.

6540 feet = 1993metres(1.9 KM)
8000 feet =2438 metres(2.43 KM)
The Kumasi runway is 2.3 km
It is more than adequate for landing and take off for Boeing 737-200 to 737-800 in most conditions i.e dry,wet ,full or empty.

What a good news. This will force British Airways to reduce their high fares. Break the monopoly of major airlines such as KLM and Air France by introducing flights to Amsterdam and Paris. These 2 companies are ripping off customers. Can you imagine tickets from Amsterdam to Johannesburg are cheaper to that if Amsterdam to Accra, though Johannesburg is almost twice the distance from Amsterdam to Accra? This is just because South African Airways flies to Amsterdam.
