However, i take issue with people projecting this UNKNOWN entity (to the rest of Ghana) as though he has done so much to affect the lives of Ghanaians when in reality he mostly just sat on his degrees without any significant benefit to Ghanaians as a whole....."We learn not for school but for life, not for self, but for others".... A person's education is most important if it positively and consequentially affect people's lives.

Do you expect the announcement to be made to his family or to his village only? He went to school in Ghana, he worked at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has friends and relatives all over Ghana. There are people who know him all over Ghana. There is nothing wrong with announcing his death in the media with a short life history as it is done for so many people. That's one reason small chieftaincy titles like Akyempimhene, Atipimhene, Sanaahene, Apagyahene, Mpaboahene, etc are created. These are not Divisional Chiefs like Krontihene, Akwamuhene, Nifahene, Benkumhene, Twafoohene, Adontenghene, Kyidomhene, Ankobeahene, and Gyaasehene, who are the Chief's Close cabinet. In the past these were the real royal divisions mainly for war purposes who in mordern times are the Chief's inner circle and chief advisors and counselors.

In fact with the possible exception of Akyempimhene and Atipimhene which have a formula for their creation, all the other small chiefs, traditionally were servants in the Chief's Palace.

If Asante had not been joined with the Gold Coast Colony after the Second World War (under the Burns Constitution), it likely would have remained independent and separate from the Gold Coast Colony up until 1957. And perhaps the question of Ashanti joining the Gold Coast Colony to become one at independence in 1957 might have been resolved by a referendum in Asante, just as was done with Trans-Volta Togoland.

So, this notion that Ashanti did not fight for independence with the Gold Coast Colony chiefs simply betrays a lack of understanding of the nuances of Gold Coast/Ghana history.

There is a reason why the post-Second World War struggle for internal self-government of the Gold Coast did not initially interest a lot of Asante chiefs and elites- they already had achieved their goal of internal self-government before the Second World War.
Ashanti participation in the Gold Coast independence struggle increased sharply with the coming of the Coussey Constitution and the holding, for the first time, of elections in the entire Gold Coast territory (the Colony, Asante, and Northern Territories) to elect members to a unitary national assembly.

That is when the Gold Coast began its real struggle for independence as one unit. And when that time came, most young Asante politicians (including RR Amponsah and Victor Owusu) initially joined the CPP.

If you don't count any Asante, Northern, or Voltarian elite in the Big Six, it was because the 1948 Riots was largely a Gold Coast Colony Colony palaver, and especially an Accra-centered one.

1) If the Asantes were not part of the Gold Coast, under what authority can the British make demands of Asantes (supposed sovereign state) and eventually arrest and jail Prempeh. Can one head of state jail the head of state of another sovereign state?

2) During WW2 Asantes were part of the Gold Coast Army that fought under the British. Why will Asantes fight under the British if they were not part of Gold Coast.

3) About three or four years ago Kwaku Duah gave a speech (still on YouTube) when he visited Memphis, Tennessee, USA. In his speech he said Asantes fought the British for decades on till they Joined the Gold Coast in 1902. HE IS EITHER LYING OR YOU ARE LYING.

CONCLUSION: Asantes have been a part of Gold Coast all along. Yes, they resisted, but that did not mean they were not officially part of Gold Coast. They just finally capitulated in 1902. That is the fact. Fast forward, that still did not change the fact that the Ghana that we all live in today, Asantes did not fight for its independence.
