The father of the current president became president but was ceremonial. Busia as the prime minister was in charge of the government. They borrowed and borrowed until the economy collapsed leading to the overthrow of Busia's government. Acheampong was the head Military Supreme Council. When Acheampong took he said our national debt was huge he couldn't pay. Yen tua. The Progress party made an attemp to return to power in 1979 but Liman PNP won. When Kufour won in 2000 it was an opportunity for the up tradition to proof itself. He took advantage of HIPC initiative but messed big time. He spent the debt forgiveness on building toilets accros the country. When people don't have food to eat will they go to toilet? You cannot pinpoint any tangible project that HIPC initiative money was used for. 7 billion dollars of debt forgiveness went down the drain. When Nana Akufo Addo was taking over our national debt was 120 billion GHC. Now when he is leaving office our debt stands over 700 billion. We cannot, as a country, service our national debt, the first time it has happened in recent memory. Financial sector has collapsed, poultry, Cocoa sectors have collapsed. For the first time in our history external banks are refusing to lend to cocobod. Our neighbors are laughing at us. That's what NPP can do.

To those of you talking about the cedi re-denomination, let me ask you this simple question, when JJ staged his useless revolution Ghana's biggest cedi note was the 50 cedis printed by the Acheampong regime if my memory is right, right?

JJ accused the Acheampong regime of messing up the economy with those 50-cedi notes, and he recalled all then printed 500, 5000-cedi notes. Now, if 50-cedi notes destroyed our economy, what impact did those big bills have on the economy?

When monetary topic comes for public discussion, we should eliminate the emotional aspect and speak with understanding because Ghana is for us. The cedi re-denomination became necessary because of JJ's big bills he printed. I remember him speaking to the nation about those bills with silly explanations which did not help anybody. Today, Ghanaians have the gut to blame Kufuor than the person who caused the problem.

When JJ became our leader, he destroyed most businesses thereby causing huge unemployment but with the gun, people were mute unable to voice their displeasure till Kufuor came to the presidency before Ghanaians started complaining.
