The truth is that it is the Mamprusis who are perpetuating all these things yet their son Bawumia who is busy campaigning to be president is saying and doing nothing about it. His complicity and silence in this matter is nauseating. Some of us argued at the time these new regions were being created that these were essentially tribal regions that will pitch tribes against tribes. When north-east was part of northern region, the security situation was always known to other tribes like the Dagombas or Konkonbas who were regional ministers, and they did the right things to ensure peace. Now, north-east is a region for Mamprusis with minority tribes that have been turned into slaves on that land. They now plan everything security and execute them with the involvement of the political elite, including Buwumia and his assigns at the blind side of everybody. Prez. Kufuor made this mistake of making Gen. Hamidu national security coordinator in 2001 when he had interest in the Yendi chieftaincy crisis, and the result of that decision is well known to Ghanaians. Some Ghanaians are busy campaigning for Bawumia who is a dye in the wool Mamprusi who has refused to do anything about this conflict, to be president. Can anybody imagine what will happen to the Kusasis and their allies when Bawumia becomes president and takes charge of the security of this country? Can Bawumia pretend that he was not aware of the so-called Mamprusi chief's return to Bawku that is eliciting all these reactions? Did you fight for the region for development or you did that to impose yourselves on your enemies? Ghanaians cannot and should not fall into this disaster again by electing Bawumia as president, especially when he has demonstrated he can take his eye off the ball and pretend he is unaware of what is going on between the Mamprusis and Kusasis. Impunity must not be rewarded. It is time we held politicians responsible for the happenings in their backyards. We cannot bring on ourselves the Yendi situation by pitching one tribe against the other as a country. Bawumia must be seen and heard to be doing something about the current happenings for us to trust that he will be president for all in that area and not president for Mamprusis. Until that is done, no one should reward him for his inaction.

It is someone who formed a town, name it and has been a chief since 1721 vrs someone who was made a chief by Nkrumah in 1957. You can do your politics but take Bawumia out of it. Mamprusis are always victims of politicians including Nana/Bawumia govt. Nkrumah imposed a kusasi chief and exiled the Mamprusi chief in 1957. Rawling issued a decree in 1983 banning the Mamprusis from performing funeral of the late chief and subsequently enskining a new chief. Despite all these atrocities, the determined Mamprusis in Bawku still remain strong and resolute. This is an indication that truth may be on the side of the Mamprusis else they would have been defeated by now. Because the Mamprusis dont always run to radio or Tv stations to do propaganda, people dont hear their side of the story. May God Almighty bring lasting peace to Bawku and also give the souls of the deceased peaceful rest.

Please educate yourself well. The Mamprusis came as traders and settlers to meet the Kusasis on their land. At the time the Kusasasis were not enlightened and organized to have their own governance structure. They did not have a chieftaincy system because they were led by the family and clan heads who were Tindaanas. The settler Mamprusis were more organized and decided to have their own chief to govern their affairs but over time, they capitalized on the unenlightened Kusasis and extended their rule OVER the Kusasis. When the Kusasis got enlightened and decided to assert their right and authority over their land, the Mamprusis refused to recognize them as the legitimate owners of their land and their right to have their own leadership. The Mamprusis still insisted on controlling the Kusasis as their subjects. This is the crust of the whole Bawku trouble. If the Mamprusis had agreed that their chief should only deal with matters pertaining to Mamprusi culture and tradition and not seeking to rule the Kusasis and own their lands, there will be no trouble. The Mamprusis do not own the Bawku land. The Kusasis have no problem with them agreeing that they are settlers and behaving as such. It's just like these tribal groups settling in the Ashanti or other regions and being allowed to appoint their own chiefs. One day they gain dominance in those areas and get up and say the land is theirs and that they should be paramount chiefs or overlords and have control over the indigenes who welcomed them and settled them on their lands. This is the situation in Bawku. There can be no truth beyond this. The Mamprusis should just agree they are settlers and they own no land or have any right to extend their rule and control to the Kusasis, period. We know the history, though not natives. You also suggested that Bawumia should be left out of this, he cannot. He is the most significant Mamprusi in Ghana today and he cannot say he has no interest in or solution to what is happening. We cannot continue to insulate persons like that from these things. That is the kind of irresponsibility we have bread in the north among the leadership and they are not making any progress. Those who seek to lead the nation must demonstrate that they can reconcile their own before seeking to lead others.

Please 1972 October. We nearly got killed because of same issues then where was Dr Bawumia at the time. I am an Asanteman a stranger in Bawku. First time visitor to the town. Nearly got killed. You are now blaming Dr Bawumia. Why?
Please we need peace over there. Over 50 years later. I passed through Bawku on my way to North Togo on religion practice. I was very sad to see so many Road blocks and barriers. Both military, police and customs from Tamale through to the Togo border. We were not allowed to pass through Bawku township. Why. This was last year before Dr Bawumia became the NPP candidate.
If we bring politics into this we will not get anywhere. I love my Northern brother and sister because I am married to a Dagarti lady. Wishing you peaceful solution.
