These journalists are complete waste. Civilians don't go on pension with their ranks or titles. Kofi Boakye should be addressed or referred to as Mr Kofi Boakye, a former commissioner of police. He cannot be addressed or referred to as a commissioner of police retired. It is only the military whose officers retire with their ranks according to regulations, customs and traditions which are internationally upheld. The reason is that apart from the Generals, military personnel retire,short of the compulsory retirement age. Any military person who retires is placed on 'R List' (Reserve List). This is because they can be recalled to service in the event of national crisis. And when such a situation arises, the retired officers could easily fit in without disorganising command and control. A retired military officer still enjoys all the compliments his rank entitled for. But, it has to be indicated that officers who are released from the service on grounds of 'Service No More Required' due to indisciplinary acts, such as theft, insubordination, failure to pass promotion examinations,and other serious offences are not permitted to use their ranks in civil life because in the event of civil crisis they will not be recalled to the service because they would be bad examples to their colleagues. This is for the education of journalists and the general public.
