The Speaker is highly dangerous and an unsophisticated peasant. He is not a Justice of the Supreme court to interpret the 1992 constitution whereas the matter is before the Supreme Court, in spite of the error or otherwise made by Prof Ocquaye as speaker in 2020. One is reminded of the adage "two wrongs do not make a right". As an alleged statesman, the speaker should have demonstrated constraint and maturity. He should have had the presence of mind to address his thoughts on the serious implications for our democratic discourse. In order for such a monumental decision to be taken, a consensus and an objective approach should have been taken in the interest of the country and not in the interest of party loyalty. The disruption it would cause the governance of the country, the judicial arm of government's role, the stable democratic dispensation and the international reputation Ghana has chalked up are all matters the Speaker should have factored in before making such a decision. It is frankly not intelligent and smart as a lawyer or speaker of a law-making body to disrespect the constitutional mandate of the Judiciary to interpret the constitutional provisions for the good of the country. It is beggars believe that the speaker has made such an error of judgment but then again it was Akufo-Addo's fault for paving the way for his Speakership, another error of judgment from another equally school-boy thoughtless leader of our so-called beloved country.

Ghana is heading to constitutional crisis. The speaker did not apply wisdom at all.
We have less than 52 days to general elections of both parliamentary and presidential.
Why such move to stop every government business before elections ?
The speaker is wrong at point of Parliamentary laws. Does NPP party constitution rules Ghana parliament? Has both NPP & NDC wrote to the speaker that these affected Parliamentarians ceased to by their members? Moreover, there is a petition at the supreme court so why didn't the speaker wait for the outcome of the petition?
The speaker know that the electoral commission is very busy preparing for the general elections, so when will they be able to conduct by- elections?
I believe the law also gives 3 months for by- elections to be conducted after a seat is declared vacant.
This unnecessary move by NDC to force the speaker to take this action because he is their own does not benefit them or the NPP. Even as things stand now NDC does not have majority to form quorum to conduct any parliamentary business if the NPP Parliamentarians decided to boycott parliament. The same way NPP also can not do any of their government business without lobbing the moderate NDC members in the house.
So at it stand now the Ghanaian parliament is closed until the 9th parliament is sworn into office. All parliamentary committees can not conduct their oversight functions because these committees constituted of members from both the majority and minority of the house.
In this case the democracy is dead in Ghana until a new parliament is sworn in.
This move by our revered speaker of the house is a disaster for the country and doesn't favor anyone. It's does put government business to a complete hualt.

The Speaker of Parliament’s decision to declare the four parliamentary seats vacant, especially with just two months to the general election, raises serious concerns about fairness, representation, and consistency with the constitution. Here’s why I feel this declaration is problematic:
First, the MPs in question, including Hon. Yew Peter Kwakye Ackah, Hon. Andrew Amoako Asiamah, Hon. Kojo Asante, and Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison, have not resigned from their respective political parties in a manner that would justify their dismissal from Parliament. According to Article 97(1)(g) of the Ghanaian Constitution, an MP forfeits their seat if they vacate the party on whose ticket they were elected. However, none of these MPs has officially resigned from their parties. Running as independent candidates or switching allegiances for the next election does not constitute an immediate resignation under constitutional rules. These MPs were elected by their constituents to represent them, not just their parties. By removing them from office, the Speaker is effectively denying these constituencies their constitutional right to representation until the next election.
Second, this decision is inherently contradictory in its application of the constitutional provisions. The case of Hon. Andrew Amoako Asiamah, who was initially elected as an Independent MP for the Fomena Constituency but now wishes to contest on the ticket of the NPP, exemplifies this contradiction. When Hon. Asiamah entered Parliament as an Independent candidate, the constitution allowed him to align with either side of the house, which he did by supporting the NPP. Now that he has chosen to formally contest under the NPP banner, it is being deemed a violation of the constitution, although his actions remain consistent with the political alignment he demonstrated during his time in Parliament. This contradiction suggests that the declaration is not grounded in a consistent interpretation of the law, leading to confusion and potential political bias.
Finally, with just two months to the general election, declaring these seats vacant creates an unnecessary disruption. The affected MPs are already preparing to seek fresh mandates from their constituents in December. Forcing by-elections or creating an interim period without proper representation serves no practical purpose and risks undermining public confidence in the democratic process. It could lead to wasted resources and unnecessary political tension in those constituencies.
In conclusion, the Speaker’s declaration to vacate these parliamentary seats is not only premature but also contradictory and potentially unconstitutional. The people of the affected constituencies deserve continuous representation, and the MPs in question have not violated the constitution in a way that justifies their removal. This action is ill-timed and may set a dangerous precedent that could destabilize parliamentary processes in future elections.
Forgive my ignorance, but my opinion.
