I believe members of UTAG are people who have been trained to think outside the box. What I expected from them is to set up a strong committee to investigate and propose solutions that will be acceptable to all the citizenry and save our country from this problem. It is clear military action cannot and will not solve the problem. It is a great shame that UTAG did not bring any proposal but rather decided to embark on a strike action. Will this solve the problem? A huge disappointment in UTAG. Money spent on their training has gone down the drain.

UTAG’s strike is not necessary. As people in academia one expects them to bring out alternatives. Again one expects them to find out the causes of the activity and the consequences of a total ban. Lots of things happen and it is always better to find out the whys and the hows of solving these problems. No need to be reactive. Mature minds must prevail under such circumstances. For example Randsford Gyampo and his group of lecturers who are calling on UTAG to withdraw their services and are advocating for a total ban of mining don’t appear to be serious. To me, they are being childish and using infantile logic to advance their call for a general strike. What studies have they done to come to this conclusion? Why are they staying in the urban areas and making such general demands? Let them go to the field and interact with the miners so that they can make wise and informed decisions. For example when Gyampo was accused of sexually harassing students, what happened? A committee was set up and he was supposed to to be innocent. He was freed and is now leading an infantile and uninformed crusade. How about if the authorities at that time had little minds and sacked him. So like he was given some hearing, Gyampo should lead his pressure group to make an academic and well informed study of this galamsey issue and stop the Secondary School politics and logic that he is engaged in. Let us have a UTAG made up of academics. Yes we don’t need brutish beats to make any judgement for us. Nonsense
