I also think we can go back to the Efo Jeremiah John Rawlings’ era where there were a number of Police checkpoints and Patrols on the road. I remember during those days, vehicles were signed up in their transport log as to when they left the station. After that, there will be many stoppages for Patrolling Officers to find out if a driver has been over speeding. In some cases, if the Patrol Officers were soldiers and the vehicle has been overspeeding, the driver could be drilled and whipped by the Patrolling Officers on the spot and in front of the passengers. That made Drivers stopped overspending. Let us go back to those old times.
When such Drivers speed foolishly and get involved in an accident, they blame it on burst tyres or engine failures.
Drivers of vehicles should prove every month of the tune up of their vehicles to the Police and GPRTU before they are loaded with passengers. Those who don’t go for tune ips for two months should be fined heavily and such money paid to a special account.
Many of our vehicle drivers drive like rogues hurrying to accidents to kill passengers.

In US, Canada and the EU where we buy used tires, there have different tires for every season especially the winter. The winter tires had steel threads and the other seasons thread. When winter passes they change the steel threads which helps with stability in winter on the cold roads because of the heat produced within the steel. Those tires are sent here in the thousands and since we are in the tropical zones what do you expect when you drive at top speed with tires treaded with steel. The big men know. The driving in Ghana is so bad that anyone drives anywhere. Dual carriage lanes may fix it but major factor here is the drivers.

The driver was burned. Someone lost legs! I pray to God for those injured, those dead, and the families of everyone on that bus! I especially pray for my beautiful fiancée and hope she heals quickly so she can get to my side!
I hope this accident brings much needed reforms to government. It is too corrupt! I know of people getting held up and robbed and stabbed and robbed and the police only say they are investigating but nothing happens. I’d bet the police are getting a cut to look the other way!
Rise up people and vote these crooks out! Take control of your country!

The appalling state of our roads are majorly responsible for a vast number of these tragic incidents. It appears that, as a country, we have lost our Collective sense of carrying out maintenance of our roads, and for that matter, our infrastructure. Driving through Accra, being the nation’s capital, the general disrepair of the roads, is frankly, criminal. Then again, l have visited a number of educational institutions and I’m aghast at how dreadful the buildings look. How much does it cost to apply paint to the buildings that they look like they have been abandoned, and left to rut?
