We are not disputing or downplaying the recent devastating effect of galamsey and all negative consequences it’s likely to bring.
However the problem is the timing of these agitations amid threat of strikes and how it has become a political football. The issue is the motive behind these so called sympathisers who are themselves worse culprits and people equally to blame. Sadly because of political gains they are behaving as if they care. Where were they all these years of devastation?
The point is that the traditional leaders, landlords owners, local leaders and citizens can easily stop this canker no matter what the government and their agents like mineral commission do Some traditional leaders like Dormaahene are fighting hard to save their lands what about the rest?

They only treat the water for particles and mud, microorganisms and acidity. Besides, the cassava, maize, pepper, tomatoes, etc are all absorbing the mercury from the soil. Don't get me wrong because that is the history of galamsey in Ghana because I am old enough to know it, and you can ask any grown Ghanaian who was alive during the days of Nkrumah through Kufuor when our rivers were clean.

That is why the Mills/Mahama government is being attacked as the originator of galamsey being done in our waterbodies. Yes, they took a $3billion from China in which the Chinese government inserted a clause that includes their migrants coming to Ghana to mine gold. If you dispute that where did the Chanfan machines come from, and also, who was Aisha Huang the galamsey queen who came from China and went straight into galamsey?

The lady dared the Mahama government to arrest her and was she arrested so the question is why? Ghana needs a unison voice to stop galamsey but the truth must be told. Last week, did you hear what Mahama was telling Ghanaians? He said that galamsey cannot be stopped so, just ask yourself if the fight is easy to be won.

Those young men and women and their sponsors with the support of the chiefs, village heads who are combing the rivers, swamps and forest reserves for alluvial gold are the ones destroying our water bodies, forests, cocoa farms, rubber plantations etc. It is a big business backed by international financiers. The youth prefer to work in the galamsey mines for quick money which enables them to live a good live and build houses but it has implications for their long term health. This is where education and research into galamsey activity will shed more light into their activities. The country must spend money on research work into emerging menace and other 21st century challenges.

Now the government has seen how to weaken the labour fronts and definitely the effect of this will be a rigid position of this government come the time of next year’s salary negotiations. After all now they know TUC is not a United force.

Almost all heads of agencies were and are appointed by this president so about 98% are NPP and since the NPP now has one voice on galalmsey workers will be dismissed and suspended when they heed to the TUC calls for strike.
And we all know that no labour law works in Ghana when the political interest is at hand.

Utag are a group of academics hence the government can’t mafia them but what can a mere civil servant association do.

But at this point it is each one for himself God for us all.

I read some comments and I really wonder if it was this era could Ghana have gained independence?

People are suffering from extreme poverty but are so blinded by NPP NDC that one wonders if they have brains.
