My brother i was part of operation vanguard in 2017 and it was pathetic, the very soldiers who were sent to combat the menace were ourselves complicit in the act. The military high command with their civilian counterparts, the ministers, especially the then senior minister Yaw Osafo Marfo were neck deep in the menace,but doing window dressing in the public domain especially on radio and television pretending to be fighting the canker. We could go to a galamsey site to arrest miners but a call will come from above to order us to leave the place immediately without any arrest. There's a lot of exposures to be made but you can't fight the system when you're still a part of it ,i pray that when God almighty 'butter my bread' in the not too distant future and i 'ground arms' after several years of serving the colours,i'll expose all the ills in the once discipline institution called the Ghana Armed Forces.

The best way of tackling the scourge is to take measures that stave off demand for illegally won gold. It means that gold buying should be accompanied by a certification process of appropriately sourced gold. And any that does not fall into strictly defined parameters should be criminalized when found in a person's possession. Government could establish gold buying agencies in the mining areas and only buy from miners who have been inspected as to how and where the gold has been sourced from. Purchased gold should be certified and stamped as to weight, purity and current market value. Vendors should be given receipts which can later be redeemed from a government financial institution that's partnered with GRA and be treated as part of their taxable income. In such a setup, there needs to be the appropriate linkages that ensures that there are no leakages that can be exploited by actors who are appointed to run the systems implemented by government.

Aren't you the same the President whose Julor House government set galamsey queenpin Aisha Huang free when she was first arrested and being prosecuted for her galamsey activities? You can't pretend to be fighting galamsey when your Julor House government is nothing but a galamsey government. Ghanaians have for the past eight years been shouting into your ears to deploy the military and Police to stop these galamsey bastards, but you refused to heed the calls of Ghanaians, all because your government is in bed with galamsey criminal bastards. Because of your failure to act against galamsey, many in rural areas across Ghana where galamsey is taking place now have to drink and cook with water contaminated with dangerous chemicals used by galamseyers. Additionally, many farmers are now growing crops on lands severely contaminated by galamsey chemicals, not to mention the the deforestation caused by these galamsey criminals.
