  This is an urgent situation and must start with an urgent step. Halt all small scale mining to allow our water bodies and lands to heal. Use the time, 6 - months, to engage all - large-scale miners, etc on best way forward to process gold without using poisons. Simply put, small-scale miners do not have the capital to deploy techniques that will not pollute. Licensing small-scale miners must be done with impartial scrutiny and regulations.

  While I don't have the technical knowledge to grasp the feasibility of what you propose, you must understand that the average Blackman doesn't think the way you do. We think about today and not tomorrow. Leave our waters for 6 months to heal? That is a reasonable proposal if that would achieve that end. But remember that both the NPP and the NDC have zero interest in curtailing or reducing galamsey because they benefit from it, directly or indirectly. Anything they are saying right now is for the optics. There's an election in two months.
  
  This is why I have posted many times here on Ghanaweb that Ghana needs to reset in a dramatic fashion. A military takeover would be a step in the right direction. A military person who has the country at heart and is annoyed by the trail of deception and underdevelopment under both NDC and NPP, can outlaw this menace without fearing the consequences at the ballot box.
