I have said it before and will repeat it here: the political duopoly (NPP and NDC) is responsible for the decline of the country under the fourth republic. These parties take turns raping Mother Ghana with each successive administration. They have these colorful promises that titillate the economic curiosities of our fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters. Both parties have their sticky fingers in the menace that is galamsey, despite its health hazards and destruction of our rivers, farms, lands and our very existence.

This changing of hands between the parties must stop. I don't foresee a third party winning an election anytime soon.

It's time for a wake-up call and shake-up of the establishment. I don't mind at all if the military takes over, as long as all efforts are made to minimize civilian casualties. Whatever happens to the crooks at the helm of government is joyfully welcome. Only and only if the economic and social needs of the citizens are the motivators for a military takeover.

And the fact that both traditional (chiefs) and political leaders are in on it is a crime against Mother Ghana on a scale not seen heretofore.

Sure, they erstwhile military regimens had their faults. I remember the era of Rawlings. Giving the ongoing issues, I have ZERO faith in both major political parties, namely, the NDC and NPP. They are outdoing each other when it comes to corruption. They have no incentive to do better because they only change hands when the other is seen to have messed up in office. The rational option is a third-party but, as I noted earlier, none of them stands a chance of winning elections any time soon. What option do you suggest? Keeping the destroyers of the country in office under the guise of democracy?

Give me a break! Have you seen the changes enacted by Traore of Burkina Faso? The West (France) wants to kick him out not because he's bad for the country but because of what France is losing with him having the interest of the country at heart. It remains to be seen if his intentions are genuine or not.

I wish your parents had been forthcoming with what Ghana was like under the AFRC/ P/NDC regime when getting one common meal a day became unrealistic. People will pack a whole bag of the then so badly depreciated cedi to buy just one can of milk. Even with the money available one had to join a long queue for ours before getting one can of milk, one box of St Louis Sugar and a loaf of bread! Wagyimi Papa! The situation that triggered the exodus of millions of Ghanaian citizens to relocate to our immediate West African neighboring countries and worked as slaves for many years.

Your stupid parents should’ve also told you that riding in passenger cars or buses at that time was only for the privileged few. Because at the time that the masses were dying of starvation, petroleum products were also in serious scarcity and due that Ghanaians were ferried in tractor trailers ( articulator trucks) as the most common and affordable means of transportation. Those tractor trailers that were going into the various rural areas to bring Cocoa beans to Tema port would stop by Nkumah Circle and get filled with human cargoes like cows headed to the slaughter; even in that situation only the strong young people could force themselves unto the trucks while the frail and the old citizens were left to deal with their own fate.

Under Rawlings time of infamy in 1979– 1992 Ghana’s population was 17 million but the country’s annual GDP average rate was $ 3 billion, as compared to the current Ghanaian population of 31 million with annual GDP of more than $ 100 billion. Do the calculations by factoring the ratios.

31million == $100 Billion
Under the 1992 scenario the current population of 31 million would’ve been bugged down with the GDP of about $ 5 billion annual GDP rate.
Compare the 1992 $ 5 Billion rate to today’s $ 100 Billion annual GDP rate that Ghanaians are enjoying.

Perhaps both you and your parents are illiterates and bereft of knowledge, so much that such economic and other factors couldn’t form part of your opinions.
The most disturbing aspect of the whole situation is that whilst Ghanaian were dying under that incompetence and poverty ridden governance of JJ Rawlings and his henchmen’s regime, freedom of speech had been curtailed, Ghanaians lived under the era of silence, because no one could dare open their mouths to challenge these military strong men and their allies for the fear of being killed in the extra judicial manner, the most common method the military used to silence their critics.

Is Asantehene inferior to the chiefs of the Volta Region? If not, is he a crook like our politicians? Does he have a conscience, knowing full well that he wields the power to stop this menace but prefers to benefit from it while people's health and livelihoods are destroyed? My hatred for the Rawlings is no more because: 1) He's dead. 2) The corruption we are seeing today is on a whole different scale compared to what I saw during Rawlings' regime and in the 70s.

Now we see Akuffo-Addo's machinations to steal the election by padding the Supreme court, creating districts few months to elections, and we know what he has done with the electoral commission. And by the way, where do you think the monies being dolled out to chiefs, musicians, actors, etc for their endorsement came from? You think it's from Akuffo-Addo's and Mahama's pays? In a night filled with reverence and international camaraderie, Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stood tall as he received the highly coveted 2024 Atlantic Council Global Citizen Award.

The event, held at the prestigious Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City, on Monday, 23rd September 2024, honoured the Ghanaian leader alongside an array of distinguished global figures, including Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Korean media pioneer Miky Lee. Each of these trailblazers was recognized for their outstanding contributions to global peace, democracy, and human development.

In his acceptance speech, President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the award is not solely his achievement but belongs to the resilient people of Ghana. “This moment is not just about me—it’s about the people of Ghana, who inspire me with their resilience, strength, and unwavering belief in a brighter future,” the President stated, underscoring the depth of his connection to his nation and its citizens.

He added that the people of Ghana, whom he called “true global citizens,” remain the backbone of his leadership. Their sacrifices, optimism, and determination, he said, continue to push the country forward, even amid challenges such as economic headwinds, political uncertainties, and global health crises.

The President was introduced at the ceremony by his friend and fellow African leader, President William Ruto of Kenya. Akufo-Addo used the moment to celebrate a new wave of African leadership, signaling a positive future for the continent. “He represents the new generation of African leadership that holds such promise for our continent,” Akufo-Addo said, acknowledging the significance of their shared mission to elevate Africa on the global stage.

Reflecting on his presidency, Akufo-Addo emphasized that the award highlights not only his leadership but also Ghana’s role in the global community. He remarked on the necessity of international collaboration, stressing that no country can tackle the world's pressing issues alone. "In today’s interconnected world, no nation can stand alone. Our future, as Ghanaians, as Africans, and as members of a global family, depends on our ability to work together and lift each other up,” he noted.

Throughout his presidency, Akufo-Addo has placed a high premium on collaboration, both within Africa and with international allies. He pointed to progress made in Ghana, including strengthening democratic institutions and expanding opportunities for the citizenry. Yet, he acknowledged that these milestones could not have been achieved without the collective efforts of the Ghanaian people and global partners.

President Akufo-Addo also took the opportunity to celebrate the strong relationship between Ghana and the United States. He described the partnership as one rooted in mutual respect and shared values, with a strong commitment to democratic principles. The Ghana-U.S. relationship, he said, has played a significant role in promoting human rights and the rule of law across the African continent.

While grateful for the recognition, Akufo-Addo framed the award as a call to action rather than a culmination of his efforts. He urged the international community to remain steadfast in confronting global challenges such as climate change, political instability, and inequality. "The challenges we face—whether it is climate change, political instability, or widening inequality—are global in nature, and they require global solutions," he remarked, reminding the audience that there is still much work to be done.

The company he worked for destroyed more lands than any galamsey's put together. Tell your children how you made your money so they can start the protest from your home. I don't condone with surface mining and galamsey but I hate the hypocrisy of this guy in the video.
