It would have taken the so-called big six over 100 years to achieve what Nkrumah achieved. Akuffo Addo is seeking to make his uncles relevant. Such is the character of Akyem people. They never fought the white man even as the Ashantis did. They wait till the dust has settled to claim ensuing glory.

Legally and in practice, there never ever was any such officially recognized group known as the Big Six. To start with, what was both the collective and individual value of the membership of the so-called Big Six as a group?? A definitive and absolute ZERO. So for good measure, they threw in the name of Kwame Nkrumah - a man they still continue to hate without remorse, into the equation to attract some amount of respectability and respect.

For the information of the wider public, it was George Alfred (Paa) Grant who founded and single-handedly financed the UGCC. He invited each of the nearly 20 members to join the organization. These included Obetsebi-Lamptey, Danquah, Akuffo Addo, Kwame Nkrumah et al. A few of these members, formed a clique within the organization and hijacked the laudable original leadership and aims of the organization. This explains the strange reason why Paa Grant the convener and founder of the UGCC, was not named as a member of the now defamed Big Six. It is also the same reason why a confrontation developed between Kwame Nkrumah and the other 5 members of the said Big Six that led to the departure of Nkrumah and the subsequent formation of the CPP.

Even though Paa Grant was sorely disappointed with this development, he kept good faith with Nkrumah until his last days. And as would be expected, the absence of Nkrumah consequently led to the disintegration of the UGCC as those he left behind, could not maintain the national UGCC structure that Nkrumah had established. They then proceeded to abandon the UGCC.

It is to be recollected that upon the belated realization that those who he had initially recruited to carry through his nationalist vision, Paa Grant, out of sheer frustration, head-hunted Kwame Nkrumah from the then globally acclaimed Pan African Congress movement, to impress some stimulus and progress into the UGCC.

Little did Paa Grant know that his justified and nationslist desire to free Ghana from the shameless clutches of colonialism, would end up as a re-enactment between the local agents of global imperialism and the nationalist forces of Africa.

The fact that Nkrumah won all the electoral processes in the build and was the leader of government business does not invalidate the or belittle the efforts of others . Please Ashanti nwas annexed and became a Crown Colony and was joined to the Gold Coast Colony on 1st January 1902 .Ashanti was given a Chief Commissioner responsible to the Colonial Governor and Gold Coast Colony laws applied to Ashanti with modifications. In 1946 Ashanti joined the Gold Coast Legislative under the Burns Constitution. Please Ashanti was colonized.It became a Crown Colony in 1902.Please see. Page 312 A History of Ghana by W E F Ward.
