If gold accounts for 54% of our foreign exchange earnings and small scale mining accounts for 40% of our gold output then in terms of foreign exchange earnings small scale mining's output is not 40% but rather 21.6% (40/100×54%).
So the country's foreign exchange earnings will deplete by 21.6% (not 40%) if small scale mining is banned.
Anyway, it isn't small scale mining in general but ILLEGAL small scale mining that advocates are calling to be banned. Mr. Minister, tell us the gold output of illegal small scale mining.

I said on this platform a week ago,...that the state should enter into a lease buy back programme.Compensate the lease holders......and the state own the lease.....that way,the Government can pick and choose what lease they want to keep,and shut down the ones which are not environmentally friendly.......But one thing here.....A position of trust is needed here.... and this is where it becomes a problem.......getting trustworthy people to be mine managers would be difficult......don't need to say why.
But illegal miners without any permits to mine or own a lease have to go.....it's a must.....no exceptions.
Sometimes,.....Ministers have a hidden agenda....Not suggesting the Minister is a thief in this case.....But merely over reacting.....Where's there
