It's because the excavators are owned by somebody who will use the courts to get his equipment released to him and misuse them somewhere else or rent them out for misuse. Burning them solves this problem

It is the sole duty of the government under Akuffo Addo to put a stop to galamsey by using the police, other security agencies and the army to do this. Our army has been redundant for many years and the President as the commander in chief could have ordered the army to route out the galamseyers but the President is unwilling to take up that responsibility for reasons best known to him .Instead of using the army to stop galamsey, the army is being deployed to police the smuggling of cereals across the borders . What a waste .
