Dormaa East: Six arrested for illegal mining

“Six illegal mining operators have been arrested in a joint security operation by the Dormaa East District Police Command, NADMO, the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), and some assembly members led by the district chief executive, Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang.

Last year, the Dormaa East District Assembly launched “Operation End Galamsey Now,” in which 14 illegal miners were arrested.

Two of them have so far been sentenced to serve various terms of imprisonment, according to the Dormaa East district chief executive, Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman

The latest operation saw six suspected illegal miners arrested in a joint security swoop in two communities within the Dormaa East District: Dormaa Akwamu and Atta-Obey. Some of the equipment seized at the two sites were mainly shovels, pickaxes, and mattocks.

At the time of the arrest, some of the suspects were actively engaged in illegal mining along the Supre River in Dormaa-Akwamu.

In an interview, Agyemang, said nine sites were visited by the team, which led to the arrest of six people while three others fled.

He said the District Security Council will not relent in its efforts to clamp down on the activities of illegal miners in the district.

He commended President Akufo Addo and Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeyo Dr Agyemang Badu for their bold decision to fight against illegal mining”

Dormaa East: Six arrested for illegal mining

“Six illegal mining operators have been arrested in a joint security operation by the Dormaa East District Police Command, NADMO, the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), and some assembly members led by the district chief executive, Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang.

Last year, the Dormaa East District Assembly launched “Operation End Galamsey Now,” in which 14 illegal miners were arrested.

Two of them have so far been sentenced to serve various terms of imprisonment, according to the Dormaa East district chief executive, Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman.

The latest operation saw six suspected illegal miners arrested in a joint security swoop in two communities within the Dormaa East District: Dormaa Akwamu and Atta-Obey. Some of the equipment seized at the two sites were mainly shovels, pickaxes, and mattocks.

At the time of the arrest, some of the suspects were actively engaged in illegal mining along the Supre River in Dormaa-Akwamu.

In an interview, Agyemang, said nine sites were visited by the team, which led to the arrest of six people while three others fled.

He said the District Security Council will not relent in its efforts to clamp down on the activities of illegal miners in the district.

He commended President Akufo Addo and Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeyo Dr Agyemang Badu for their bold decision to fight against illegal mining.

2. Three years(3) ago, Asantehene sat in his palace to disrespect Techimanhene during Nkoranza Chieftaincy issue. He went ahead to THREATEN and to sack the good people of Nkoranza from their own land. Evidence of all these are available on Youtube (when you just key in Nkoranza dispute in the search bar and listen to the Asantehene's various speeches).

3. In that same year, he mentioned the name of Dormaahene's Uncle, Ɔsagyefo Agyemang Badu I (Dormaahene - 1948-1999) in a very disparaging name.

4. In that same year, Asantehene decided to unsurp his powers by interfering in the traditional jurisdiction of Dormaa Paramouncy, by attemping to annex one of their member states - BOMAA.

5. At Manhyia Palace, they always mention Dormaa, anytime someone goes there to swear to the Asantehene. Not only Dormaa, as for the people of Denkyira, asantes have no respect for their late Chief Odeefoɔ Nana Ntim Gyakari.

But when Dormaahene mentioned that there is no KING in Ghana, the highest form of Chieftaincy is Paramount Chief, majority of Asantes became attentive and started ATTACKING him.
Dormaahene also went further to tell the history of Dormaa to the people of Dormaa including their feats and setbacks. Asantes started to attack him again.

The Ɔsagyefo Ɔseadeɛyɔ, the Dormaahene, will NEVER STOP mentioning the Asantehene until the Asantehene cease to mention Bono as well as disrespect the noble Chiefs in Bono.
Just last week Asantehene sat in Manhyia and denigrated the noble chiefs of Bono. He called them derogatory names. GhanaWeb has refused to publish such.

The latest operation saw six suspected illegal miners arrested in a joint security swoop in two communities within the Dormaa East District: Dormaa Akwamu and Atta-Obey. Some of the equipment seized at the two sites were mainly shovels, pickaxes, and mattocks.

At the time of the arrest, some of the suspects were actively engaged in illegal mining along the Supre River in Dormaa-Akwamu.

In an interview, Agyemang, said nine sites were visited by the team, which led to the arrest of six people while three others fled.

He said the District Security Council will not relent in its efforts to clamp down on the activities of illegal miners in the district.

He commended President Akufo Addo and Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeyo Dr Agyemang Badu for their bold decision to fight against illegal mining”

The chiefs own the land but the mineral belongs to the state. Why is it that the chiefs have sat on the fence when their lands are being desecrated by illegal miners? The state legally gave concessions to companies to mine but not to galamsayers. The chiefs can help the government to deal with these illegal miners but they cannot give the government an ultimatum. Ironically his guest President Mahama is complicit in this by promising to free illegal miners who have been jailed for these activities. Dormahene has no gravitas to given ultimatum to the government. He knows it is populist and an empty threat.
