What bull shit is this guy on about: that they do not get special treatment and that they also join queues? Apart from persons who have lived abroad before, all medical tourists or visitors who go abroad for medical care are treated as private patients and pay heavily (from government chest). As private patients, they do not join the same queues ordinary patients endure even when they have need to visit the GP's surgery!

Let all Christians and Moslems come together and pray that until our hospital facilities are up to scratch, any government official who travels abroad for medical care with the people's money is brought back home in a coffin paid for with the people's resources! And let the politicians include such clause in their oath of office!

What happens outside Africa especially in Western Europe and the United Kingdom is that all residents (nationals and legal foreigners) are registered on the National Health Insurance system. Each person has his own registered health provider. If you are sick, you call them book an appointment. Then you are given a specific time to visit. You go at that time and they attend to you. If you travel and want to access health care in the same country, you call the nearest health care provider, they take your particulars and enter the national system. All information about you will appear on the computer screen and they attend to you. In cases of emergency like accidents where you cannot provide any information, they will try and stabilize you until you are able to provide some information. Again most people have their identity cards on them do it will be easy to check their identity. Even Francophone countries in Africa have robust identification systems. Therefore it is important that all of us help the system. This involves giving everybody the Ghana card. Thereafter all register with the National Health Insurance Scheme and all of us help the system to work

He left out an important thing. Government officials who travel outside for treatment also take perdiems and the treatment is free. They are also afraid that someone from the opposition or tribe might harm him or her during treatment. Imagine an NPP known doctor operating on JM. Even if the doctor doesnt abandoned his professional ethics and did the right thing but something goes wrong people will still talk. So it is complicated

Having said all that, who funds those foreign medical trips? any person willing to travel abroad for medical care should be free to do so, but that person must be personally responsible for their medical care, not Ghana tax payers. You these thieving politicians love top tell Ghanaians that you're rich enough to fund your medical treatments abroad, but never willing to produce receipts proving that you took personal responsibility for your care out of the country. I recall NPP noise-makers claiming that ex-Finance Minister Ofori-Atta is a wealthy person capable for paying for his care in the USA when corrupt Akufo-Addo had Ofori-Atta flown to the USA for Covid treatment. Ofori-Atta and the corrupt NPP government are yet to produce evidence that Ghana tax payers did not shoulder the responsibility of Ofori-Atta's Covid treatment in the USA.

I have my doubts if they will travel overseas if they have to pay their own way. Insurance covers all medical expenses, but these politicians don't have insurance cover in these foreign countries, so the government pays cash for their medical treatment.
