  You agree that in the west your money works for you in your old age while in Ghana it's not so. That means in the west people don't usually sacrifice all their income on their children like we do. So if you sacrifice everything on your children rather than investing it for the future and you get old who will take care of you. All major religions of the world preach against children abandoning their parents in their old age. May she's an atheist with no legion. Someone needs to minister to her. Maybe she meant to say that you should also save for your retirement while you care for your children

  The so-called advice doesn't make sense at all. Is the "advisor" implying that parents should limit the quantum of resources they intend to spend on their children so they could serve enough for their old age thereby limiting the potential of the children?
  I prefer spending my personal savings on my children so as to give them the best in life instead of keeping the money or those resources for my up keep in my old age. Taking the best care of our children should be seen as investment from which we should expect "dividend" at the time we need same.
