In 1951 there was no secondary school in the North. The South had 13 small small mission secondary schools including Achimota..In 1951, there was only one university graduate from the North, Edmund Alhassan Gbanzaba.President Nkrumah therefore started the first secondary school in the North, the Government secondary school, now the Tamale secondary school and made it free boarding for them to attend. Please Tony, the British never left any money for free education in the North.
