For his information and for those who don't know, 24 hours economy has not yielded the desired results for those countries which have implemented so far, and the future prospects with it even looks gloomy for those economies. The framers of the traditional 8 to 9 hours economy were meticulous and spot on. H. E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, was right when he replied John Mahama that the policy was not carefully thought through.

Even a kindergarten child knows that the total number of hours per day is 24 and that all the hours can be made use of in most human endeavors. When you talk about using all the 24 hrs for production of goods and services everybody knows what you’re talking about. It is when you talk about the modalities for using the 24 hours for such purposes that the challenges arise especially in the Ghanaian context. In other words, we know the ‘what’, it’s the ‘how’ that is the problem and that has become a challenge for even the propagators of the idea to explain. There’s no public policy from any government in this world (except a maybe communist government) that will compel/cajole a private institution or business to operate 24 hrs if the product from that establishment does not attract a corresponding demand. Demand is a function of need and purchasing power. This is purely a supply and demand issue. So if a party says it will introduce a 24hr economy, it is difficult to see what exactly it means. How can you run three shifts if your product is not in demand? There are simply too many factors at play and I don’t think the propagators know what time it is. That this happens to be a flagship policy idea by a party that has been in government before just beats my imagination.
