Public Relations Institute launches week

Accra, Sept. 28, GNA - The Institute of Public Relations (IPR) on Monday, launched activities for the 2010 Public Relations Week, to provide a platform for discussions on how the profession could strategically be positioned to manage the nation's reputation against any challenges of the oil find.

The week-long programme scheduled to commence on October 4, is on the theme; "Managing Ghana's Reputation in an Emerging Oil and Gas Industry".

Mrs. Vicky Wireko-Andoh, President of the IPR at the media launch in Accra, said the theme would be looked at from different angles by various personalities at various forums including seminars, lectures and discussions.

She said the roundtable would involve corporate institutions in the financial sector to discuss their various roles in the oil, gas and energy sectors to help shape Ghana's economy.

Mrs Wireko-Andoh expressed the hope that the theme would help generate a national discourse and give managers in the industry the necessary pointers in the early stages to see how to manage challenges that may arise to make the oil a blessing rather than a curse. Mrs. Wireko-Andoh further explained that the week would begin with a health and fitness walk to help energise its members as well as the general public to be in a better frame of mind and body for a successful week, to be followed by a public lecture and the other public forums. "On 8th October we will have our Annual General Meeting where we would report on our stewardship to the general body of IPR members," she said and crown the week with a celebration of dinner and dance where new members would be admitted as well as a thanks giving service. She called on all IPR members as well as the general public to participate in the activities lined up to mark the IPR week long celebration.
