Accountant General trains staff

Accra, Sept 28, GNA - The Controller and Accountant General's Department on Monday officially opened a three-day public financial management workshop for finance officers in the Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDA's) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA's) in Accra.

The workshop is to help address challenges faced by accounting officers of MDA's and MMDA's in the performance of their duties. Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs Grace Adzroe, Deputy Controller and Accountant-General, said the workshop would focus on the compliance with financial Laws and expenditure controls.

She noted that it would also help to facilitate the usage of accounting data reports as powerful management tools by management in their day-to-day administration of finance.

Mrs Adzroe said citizens' demands for accountability for the use of resources was on the increase, but audit reports of MDA's and MMDA's consistently revealed weaknesses in the control and management of public funds over the years, hence the need for such a workshop. "At the end of the training, the knowledge base of participants would be enhanced in revenue budgeting, budget implementation, banking procedures and bank reconciliation, organisational structure, internal controls, charts of accounts, recording of financial transaction and financial reporting, she noted. She said since the pubic sector was dynamic and subject to change in terms of skills and technology, the workshop would also help better manage human resource for maximum gains. Mrs Adzroe urged the participants to attend all sessions of the workshop with the zeal and seriousness that would ensure improvement in their service delivery.
