It is a valid case to file a lawsuit for damages. It should not come as a surprise in a country where the police also act as prosecutors. The entire criminal justice process needs to be reevaluated. This situation occurs frequently in Ghana because the components of the Criminal Justice System do not operate as intended, resulting in excessive overstepping of boundaries. The Prison service should consider hiring Case Managers to serve as a liaison between the courts and the prisoners.
