A very bogus report by all standards. Clearly the committee failed to probe issues relating to the testimony of the IGP in relation to his dealings with Bugri Naabu. No findings were made to confirm the veracity or otherwise of the claim by the IGP that he hasn't spoken to Bugri Naabu for over a year. Why didn't the committee, with all its powers under the 1992 constitution and the standing orders of parliaments failed to request for the call log of the IGP and Bugri Naabu to interrogate same. Why did the committee refuse to interrogate the allegation of extra judicial killing when the whistle was blown on such happenings. The committee could have recommended to the Attorney-General to cause criminal investigations to be conducted into the alleged killings. The committee also failed to deal with the general promotion issues and lazily concluded that same matter was before a court. The case in court is different from the general promotion issues discussed on the leaked tape. It is also interesting to note that the chairman of the committee failed to sign the report, and this is very unusual. The chairman should, as a matter of urgency, explain to Ghanaians why he refused to sign the report. Does he have a dissenting opinion on the way the committee investigated the matter? There are more questions to be answered on this bogus report.

Article 103(6) of the 1992 constitution provides as follows:

"(6) A committee appointed under this article shall have the powers, rights and privileges of the High Court or a Justice of the High Court at a trial for -

(a) enforcing the attendance of witnesses and examining them on oath, affirmation or otherwise;

(b) compelling the production of documents; and

(c) issuing a commission or request to examine witnesses abroad.

The committee therefore cannot say that they did not have power to request for the calls log of IGP to confirm the veracity or otherwise of his claim of not being in touch with Bugri Naabu.

Do not try to unseat this IGP or you may find yourself fighting against something that will destroy you. He will move on when he has faithfully completed his assignments. This is the first IGP we've had who has been fully committed to his responsibilities and has clearly been doing his best to establish the rule of law in Ghana.
