Bawumia himself is a Mamprugu and Akufo-Ado is an Akyem royal. Only royals who occupy stools or skins are not allowed to engage in active politics. Despite that, a section of the NDC wanted a whole Togbe of a traditional area to abdicate and become John Dramani's running mate and noone raised an issue.
