*Ensures the vehicle is washed and kept tidy

*Checks the status of the vehicle and brief the driver on the condition of the vehicle

*Discusses with the driver the possible routes to use

*Seeks for passengers to use their vehicle

*A link between passengers and the driver (directs the driver to the destination of their clients)

*Collects all monies from passengers and where necessary gives them change

*Keeps all monies realized until it’s time for closing for the day before he renders accounts to the driver

*He buys water for the driver

*He gives the driver money to buy food whenever he is hungry

*The mate is present when the driver visits the vehicle owner to render accounts

*The mate shares the surplus with the driver

*The mate above all drives when the driver is tired or unwell, or travels outside of the jurisdiction.

NB: The mate in effect is part of every activity and responsible for handling of resources.
Bad mates who have deceitful tongues can even hide some of the money from the drivers before rendering accounts.

In effect no mate can distance him or herself from the performance of the driver he or she assists to work and learn from
