  This is how tribalism and self agrandisement destroys a nation. Instead of creating policies institutions, systems and structures to support all brilliant but needy students, you're seeking for stardom and fame and political points by offering to help this brilliant student because she is "from your hometown". What a backward way of fixing a national problem!

  Please every year, the scholarship secretariat awards scholarships to tertiary students. It is now even decentralised so that one can apply through their home district. All the universities also have VC scholarships, although you need to enroll first to apply for this. So I don't understand this girl's story. Did she apply and wasn't considered? We haven't been told. I once encouraged a neighbour to let the daughter apply for such scholarships, but she felt instead of helping, I was asking them to apply to the scholarship secretariat. Sometimes, we Ghanaians are not pro-active. We want things to fall in our lap without acting. Even in the US, will you get a scholarship without filling a fafsa?

  They steal our money and deplete the coffers of scholarship schemes and then throw crumbs at us as if they are doing us a favour. The fact that this girl couldn't benefit from a viable scholarship scheme speaks volumes of the incompetence of this DG. He can't even smile in the foto because he knows he is a failure. They've used the money to dig a pit in the center of Accra and left the future of young people in limbo.

I pray this once again prompts our leaders to Institute a proper and accessible educational loan for all who may need to assess it. Let's not make the system a sorry situation for needy but serious students who want to build a better life for themselves and country.
