  What GRA is saying does not make sense. Why are you guys trying to put sand into our eyes. There are about 22 different charges at the ports, and these charges are always charged based on the current dollar exchange rate. So, what does that mean? No one is saying that we go to the port to hand over US dollars to the customs authorities. What we are saying is that these charges are continuously being increased because of the dollar exchange rate. Ghana belongs to all of us, and we should not continue to do things that would destroy businesses and in effect, completely paralyse our economy. Tell the masses the truth. No one is saying that the customs authorities no longer accept Cedis anymore. Let's tell the truth, because the truth shall set all of us free. Ghana first. We should all remember that.

  Anyone has ever imported a vehicle into the country knows that import duties are calculated in dollars at the Tema Port. If the imported duty is not calculated in dollars, then why does an estimated value of an imported duty changes within a week when the exchange rate also changes? GRA can't deceived Ghanaians because the payment of import duties in Ghana doesn't make any sense. Ghanaian politicians are killing us and destroying local businesses.

  If you quote a figure in foreign currency and convert it according to the existing rate of cedis to that currency. What do we call that transaction? The duty is calculated in dollars if the vehicle is imported from USA and in euros if the vehicle is imported from Europe.

  THE DUTIES ARE CALCULATED USING CURRENT EXCHANGE RATE OF THE US DOLLAR ON THE VALUE. BANK OF GHANA TRANSMITS THE CURRENT US DOLLAR RATE TO CUSTOMS EVERY TUESDAY MORNING TO BE USED TO WORK OUT DUTIES AT THE PORTS AND OTHER POINTS OF ENTRY. SO IT IS TRUE THAT THERE IS A FOREIGN EXCHANGE COMPONENT BEING THE DOLLAR EXCHANGE RATE TO CONVERT THE VALUE INTO CEDIS FOR DUTIABLE PURPOSES. IT MEANS THAT ANY TIME THE DOLLAR RISES AGAINST THE CEDI, DUTIES AUTOMATICALLY BECOMES HIGHER EVEN THOUGH THE RATE OF DUTY TEMAINS THE SAME. GRA MUST SET THE RECORDS STRAIGHT.

  Even if they're charging in cedis, the rates are so unreasonable and appear so insensitive to us the tax payers.
