No one disputes Banku's claim that he's half Malian and half Ghanaian. Banku's story about his grandfather being brought to Ghana to clean gutters is false. The fact that Malians were allowed easy entry and residency in Ghana during the Nkrumah administration doesn't mean that they were brought to Ghana by Nkrumah. Many Malians came to Ghana, and like others from across West Africa, decided to stay and work in the country, and they were never bothered by anyone regarding their status in the country. Over time, many of the Malians blended into Ghanaian society, first through residency in Zongos, and eventually moving on to other neighbourhoods. Nkrumah did not bring Banku's grandfather to Ghana. Nor did Nkrumah bring any person from Mali to Ghana to clean gutters. Banku's grandfather ended up cleaning gutters because he very likely did not possess any special skills to work in other fields.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah did not force your grandfather to come to Ghana after Independence. Your grandfather migrated to Ghana to seek for greener pastures. He was highly unskilled and uneducated; that is the reason why he ended up cleaning gutters. You should thank Dr. Nkrumah’s benevolence for allowing your grandfather to migrate to Ghana and giving his grandchildren the freedom and opportunity to live in Ghana. If he had not done so, you would not have been alive today to utter nonsense and live your irresponsible lifestyle. Nonsense.

Nkrumah did not bring Banku's folks to Ghana. Because of Nkrumah's good relations with the Mali government, Malians were allowed easy entry into Ghana. Nkrumah never brought any person from Mali to clean gutters in Ghana. These Malian settlers evidently must have had no skills, and they mostly spoke French and their local Malian languages, hence the decision to find menial jobs cleaning gutters.

In fact there were a lot of Malians in Ghana after Ghana's independence. Most of them worked as watchmen and head porters, specializing in fetching water.
Infact, the term 'kayayoo' and the plural form 'kayayei' (ie female head porter/s) is derived from kaya, the name we gave to the male head porters those days.
In the house I grew up in Accra, there were 6 men and their wives - all from Mali. All of them were very nice people.

Bukom Banku,to be a security guard in the UK is not easy.It is a professional job regulated by the Security Industries Authority established by the Home Office. To be a qualified Security Guard you need to do a course, successfully complete it and apply for the SIA licence. You will be subjected to scrutiny to ascertain your eligibility to work in the UK as a Security Guard. Hourly wages are above the living wage and how much you get at the end of the month depends on the hours you work. I am a Security Guard
myself and I take not less than £3000 after tax.I work more hours to get that amount though. And unlike Ghana Security Guards are not disrespected.Security Guards in Ghana are badly paid and attired .
