Well done sir.However we must not let this isolated instance of an award-winning Ghanaian professional paint an overly rosy picture of life in the UK as a Healthcare Professional (Nurse, Social worker, Physiotherapist, Occupational therapist, Radiographer, Doctor etc etc ). I think a genuine attempt should be made to interview those who have bee living in the UK for longer than 5 years and the challenges they face, the regrets they may have. The streets of the UK are not paved with gold folks. The soaring cost of living in the UK has resulted in may foreign nurses based in the UK to move on to other countries. After all why do healthcare workers go to the UK ? They do so primarily to get better living and work conditions.I plead with fellow Ghanaian who want to relocate to any Western countries to think carefully about these critical issues before the take the plunge. Please do careful research (or as we say DO YOUR DUE DILLIGENCE); please take a lot of time to talk to people already living there. Those who have been there for longer than 10 years are probably in a far better situation than later arrivals because they would have had time to adjust under more favorable conditions.

It's obvious this young nurse is gone for good never to serve his homeland Ghana where he received his basic nursing training.

Ghana’s educational standards have fallen so dramatically that Ghanaian students struggle in their educational institutions abroad, especially the first few years. Our educational and training institutions are our downfall, if we can’t solve very basic problems within our communities, how do we manage a country?

The educational system in Ghana grossly overrates academic performance or IQ .Other more consistent markers for great success later in life , career or vocation are not appreciated or even recognized. Character traits like COURAGE, DISCIPLINE,TENACITY,ABILITY TO COPE AND ADJUST TO ADVERSITY OR SET BACKS, THE ABILITY TO LEARN FROM ONE'S MISTAKES cannot be quantified or assessed by our current educational set up which to be fair was inherited from former colonizers. Most of those above 40 years know of numerous examples of people who excelled academically in secondary and even university but who failed to live up to expectations later in life. Conversely there are numeerous examples of people who had mediocre or even lower academic grades (the so-called "plodders". ) who went on to achieve phenomenal success in their chosen vocation. I personally know of a few such examples where some of these C or D school grade folk went on in later life to employ those geniuses we all applaud (the A+,A or B grade individuals) .These "low school achievers had what it took to set up companies, corporations ,businesses or become private investors. These people demonstrated those winning qualities listed above. They achieved tremendous success and financial security by ACQUIRING those traits and applying them to good effect. Very few people are born with these traits. OFTEN ADVERSITY AND REPEATED SETBACKS TURN OUT TO BE THE BEST TRAINING GROUND (BOOT CAMP) FOR SUCH WINNING TRAITS!

If we don’t compare ourselves to others, how can we determine whether we are progressing or failing? Comparison helps us to know where we are. Unfortunately, we live within our shelves and pretend as if there is no world around us. Countries are working hard to feed themselves and build their economies. The lack of comparative approach is one reason we can’t see how bad we are. How is it a bad thing to compare ourselves to e.g. countries whom we have had similar developmental path but are now far developed than us? We can learn from them how they did it. We are honestly no good. Every aspect of our lives is failing, football, education, discipline etc. We should hope that someone realises that if we continue the way we are going, our dear country is doomed.

In a country where politicians sit down for their skilled workers such as teachers, nurses and doctors to be taking away, then automatically there is no country..The Govt of Ghana should stop these nonesense..what these western countries are doing is called brain drain and if this is not stopped, Ghana will continue to be under developed..The Govt of Ghana needs to put in some measures to stop these nonesense..personally this is not something to be celebrated in Ghana..only dumb ass and fools will celebrate this nonesense in Ghana..The Nigeria Govt recently passed a law to stop its nurses to be taking to foreign countries…Ghana needs to do same..this is bad..Ghana as a country has a problem, but it doesn’t mean the Uk should take advantage and be stealing younger nurses to the Uk..this is called stealing..Ghana Govt wake up ooo, if a country is loosing all its youthful nurses and teachers to foreign countries who refuse to train their own nurses and teachers because of laziness, that’s madness..the Ghana Govt needs to wake up..as a leader, u can’t sit down for a foreign country to be stealing your Human Resources..this is against the international human right laws..Ghana as a country needs to protect its skilled workers..put in some laws or measures to stop this madness..those of u saying congratulations nonesense, a time will come if all nurses run away from Ghana, your relatives in Ghana will be suffering when they go to the hospital because they can’t get any trained nurses to take care of them..politicians have really failed Ghanaians and it’s sad..Freedom Jacob Caesar, please come and save mother Ghana..
