Those condemning should study the Bible very carefully before jumping into hasty conclusions. What was said about the betrothal of Mary to Joseph at Mary’s early age is true. That was the norm then, but now delayed to 18years of age, but it doesn’t mean one cannot be betrothed now at age 12.

1. The child was sick after birth. The mother took the child to the shrine for healing.
2. They claim it's the deity that chose that girl as a wife of the deity
Point 1 and 2 is common in many cultures in Ghana. If u go for healing from these deities they will come after you or your family.
3. The marriage ceremony was symbolic to ward off men until she becomes an adult when she can marry a man of her choice. The older wife's of the deity are reported to have their own legally husbands.
I find point 3 curious. The girl risk having sexual intercourse with the wulormo even if she is allowed to have her own future husband. This is because she is currently not fully matured mentally and she will grow up knowing the wulormo as her 'man'
4. The dirty wants a virgin to play that customary role. If this were not the believe of the people I'm am certain they would have risen against it as a people. But it appears they all believe in it
5. The child is said to be attending one of the best schools
6. The child cannot choose to stop playing this role in adulthood. This is were I have a big problem. You initiate a child (who obviously lack capacity to give consent) into a spiritual program . She will either grow believing that this is normal and right and may not even consider stopping. If she had capacity to consent as an adult she may not accept this traditional role. Having said this, I note that when adults are selected as chiefs they are told they will go mad if they refuse.
I observe with pain how tribalistic we are as a people. We cannot discuss issues without insulting one tribe or the other. How can we develop as Ghanaians if we are so divided. I dare say that there is no tribe in Ghana that do not have examples primitive traditions. It does not make this wulormo move right.

Listening to the explanation given by the Gborbu traditional council l think we are all missing something here and because people have taken entrenched positions on the ongoing issue we are failing as a people to resolve this issue amicably. This is because the ceremony portrayed a certain picture we find wrong and unacceptable hence our strong reaction against what saw, however the custodian of that tradition are telling us that, what think happened is not what they are portraying and that she is the wife of the stole and can only be seen as (queen) if she remains a virgin. She can therefore not have any thing sexual with anyone not even the wolomo the priest. When she is 18years another rite will perform for her after which she can get married to anyone of her choice but for now she remain virgin to be considered thier queen. [I guess after the second rite which allows her to sexually active a new queen must found (my personal opinion)]

Kofi Adomah went to the shrine and verify the entire case from the Wulomo, and the explanation given by the elder of the shrine, was entirely different from what is being trending through social media. We have to be careful and understand that the elders at the shrine are law abiding and will not betroth the little girl to marry any man.
