No civilized well-cultured person will blurt out in public such a statement - especially against the background of the highly publicized suspicion that Vice President Mahama, the now impending President, had himself engineered the death of President Prof. Mills in the past. What a gaffe!! That single statement has the potential to mar the relationship between the next likely President and his chosen Vice even before they start campaigning later on in the year to enter govt.

There are some people in the NDC who by their mere association or membership, are letting that party down. A political party is not a childrens charity for all comers. The days of unrefined off-the-cuff remarks symptomatic of the chaotic era of Rawlings should give way to a more disciplined approach to statesmanship for the ultimate benefit of the country at large.

The emerging young, sharp and fearless functionaries of that party who appear to be untainted with the opportunism of past politicians, should try and relegate some of those shady characters far, far, far away into the background lest they divert the party, when it becomes govt, astray.

Having said that, I do think that Mahama's choice of Vice may turn out to be one of the best things to have happened to the NDC in recent times. The two of them who are now the face of the NDC, project a comforting aura of maturity, affability, warmth, academic and worldly knowledge and gender parity. The two of them as a solid team, has put the NPP and its Presidential candidate in a very difficult position as I doubt if they can conjure a similar dream team from amongst their ranks.

Every Vice-President is keenly aware that they stand ready to step into the shoes of the Presidency should a President become unable to continue in office or losses their life. Vice-Presidents don't get into office preparing themselves to become President when the situation arises, for they serve under the President, acting as the President demands. How does Ahwoi expect any Vice-President to prepare themself to be President should the need arises? And who said Mahama was not prepared to step into the shoes of President when President Mills passed away? The death of Mills may have come as a surprise to Mahama as it did to millions of Ghana's as sudden and unexpected as it was, but that doesn't mean that Mahama was not prepared to to step in and assume the duties of President. Ahwoi piece of advice is total nonsense. The best anyone can wish for a Vice-President is that they execute their duties with care and sincerity, but not that they should be prepared to be President because another Vice-President was not prepared when their President died. Professor Nana surely knows what the function of a Vice-President is, and she certainly doesn't need some dumb piece of advice from Ahwoi.
