In the early 80's the military commander of allied forces in Western Europe was relieved of his post. He was suspected of being gay.
Who criminalized homosexuality in our constitution pre-independence....The British colonizer. Sam George can never hold any public office in the United Kingdom let alone become an MP right now in the UK.
We used to poke fun at "kojo besias" in school in the early 70s. We knew nothing then.

Against the backdrop of your supposed initial anti-gay stance, what changed for your present position to the extent of taking legal action against the anti-gay bill passed by Ghana's parliament as a sovereign nation.? Though, it is within one's remit as a Ghanaian and, also, within the context of the rule of law to challenge actions deemed ultra vires; it nevertheless beats my imagination as to how the Judiciary could truncate a bill process that has not yet become law either through Presidential Assent or parliamentary veto. See! Law should be positive and development-oriented. It is noteworthy, though, that the principles of separation of powers and checks and balances are well embodied in our Constitution yet, it requires matured, dedicated and democratic minds to protect the operationalization of the principles both in spirit and practice as epithets of governance. Subsequently, to pursue this legal pathway in the name of fighting for the human rights of homosexuals and lesbians etc who are so determined with their foreign partners to cause collateral damage to our people, by obliterating our strong cultural values through imposition of their noxious sexual behaviour on our society is anathema. It's akin to the era of slavery where local collaborators together with these Europeans annihilated and perversed our societies in antiquity. Essentially, this contribution also seeks to draw attention to the effect of this legal project; as an exercise which has a huge potential to generate a collusion course among/between the three organs of government if handled with impropriety. Meanwhile, on the wings of this Court action the President is alleged to have decided for a stay of appending his Assent to the bill; pendancy to the Supreme Court's determination of Dela Skyy's case. This would amount to an unwarranted; self-imposed; restrained and circumvented action of the Executive, by the Executive, for the Executive to wilfully truncate a legitimate legislative process for financial, geo-political and foreign interests. The stark reality is a theatrical performance by the vulnerable Akufo-Addo government to navigate around the immense pressure and manipulation of the Euro-American governments and bilateral institutions, which are against the anti-gay bill becoming law in Ghana. Inasmuch as, this is bad governance and an abuse of the powers of the Executive; it moresover, also presents an unwarranted, unsolicited and carte blanche caveat/invitation to the Supreme Court to "muddy the governance environment" . Indeed, running to Court on flimsy excuses is not necessarily a good and rightful pathway as it often disrupts the growth and development of institutions, deployment of due processes and consolidation of good practices within and across the establishments including the Judiciary Service as a corporate institution.. These are parts of the epithets of democracy, governance, law and development. I suggest our philosophical brains and intellectuals should conceptualize/theorize on our democratic experiment to shape and guide our discourses and governance.
