Someone comes to negotiate with you as the President of the country and you threaten to arrest him without even referring the case to the courts for adjudication? So Nkrumah turned himself to a judge and prosecutor simultaneously and threatened to jail the petitioners at the Nsawam maximum prison? Because they demanded a rightful returns on their toil? That explains why the wicked man died the way he did! Was it his business if farmers would use their money to marry women? Was he voted as a morality President or he was voted through Freedom and Justice and to rule by law? Now I know why he was booted out and never had the opportunity to come to Ghana as living being! WHAT KIND OF STUPID DICTATORSHIP WAS THAT?

Does it not make sense to demand similar treatment when a particular under developed part is provided with free educations and poor farmers in cocoa growing areas have none. The CMB scholarships were a compromise for not being able to finance universal free education. This is the only logical and legitimate reason.

Though I have heard about the agitations some farmers embarked on in respect to the Cocoa prices during Nkrumah’s time. I have never heard the details like this till today. I will do some more research on the subject. Nkrumah’s actions and words were unbecoming of a leader. And it underscores how hypocritical Nkrumah was. Because during all these while when Nkrumah was insulting the farmers as womanizers some of his ministers including John Mahama’s father were marrying several women and making several children. Mahama’s father who was one of the most trusted confidant of Kwame Nkrumah marries more than 6 wives and fathered over 44 children! Yet Nkrumah never had any qualms with that, but threatened to send the poor farmers to jail because they have asked about price increases ? Why didn’t Nkrumah fire Mahama’s father for marrying several wives and giving birth to dozens of babies? You see why Nkrumah should never be celebrated? The guy was egomaniac; he also had very bad impressions about Ashantis and other Akans! But he himself was engaged in several out of wedlock relationships; and made children through these relationships! WHAT A HYPOCRITE! Yet we are reading some idiots praising the wicked dictator for engaging in such lawless acts! Unbelievable! Now I see why people celebrated his ouster in such a grand style!

Kwasea kwa, you should be grateful to Asantes for at least accepting to allow their resources to be used to develop the country. What annoys me is, then Asantehene and the chiefs were nothing but cowards, they should have started their resistance again instead of tucking their penis between their legs and allow Nkrumah to use their resources to develop the whole country while cheating them. In fact the last brave Asante was Yaa Asantewaa, every Asante Royal after her is nothing but cowards. Asantes has been getting a raw deal since independence and they keep behaving like scary cats, allowing successive governments to take them for a ride, the only thing they are good at is bragging.

From the onset, the Asantes did not support the Unitary Government, One Nation. The royals were not sent to school because a teacher may beat them if they flawed. In some cases, those who went to school had servants who went with them. The servants 'received punishments' for their royals, especially, if it was canning. There had been a servant who passed the P6 exams just escorting and went on to pass the MSLC exams. Nkrumah was right.

I am boiling so much with anger about the comments I am reading now. I was born and bred in Ashanti region and I attended high school in the region. An elite school that I don't want to mention. But please take note of how the CMB scholarships were awarded. In my school', more than 90,% of students with the CMB scholarships were from Greater Accra and the Volta region. The farmers were either scammed by Nkrumah or those who were in charge administering the scheme. It was all distributed at the CMB headquarters situated in Accra. Poor children of the poor cocoa farmers never got access to the scholarship. Stop giving negative comments about a people who wanted the best for their kids and never got it. You same people are now turning around insulting us that we don't like being educated. It hurts so badly when I take my mind back to what we went through as children of poor cocoa farmers.

@Nkonim, you failed to tell us the year you were born and when you went to that school. I was born and bred in Kumasi. My parents were farmers as well, but I never got any CMB scholarship. That said, that happened long after Nkrumah was overthrown from office. I grew up being told a "fat lie" that Nkrumah gave free education only to those from the North. That spurred me on to go and read the "1961 Ghana Education Act". It was as plain as the nose on my face that, free education was given to every Ghanaian from Paga to Cape Three Points in 1961. Yet, what happened after 1966 when Afrifa and Kotoka foolishly repealed that Act in April 1966, putting the onus on various local authorities were the one our own ancestors chose to embellish. This Anokye man who claims to come from the Western Region is a fat liar, or is being inellectually dishonest. It is not true that "every ward of a cocoa farmer who showed proof" was given a CMB scholarship. My step-father was the chairman of the local cooperative of cocoa farmers but NON of his children ever benefitted from the scholarships. Instead, greater number of the scholarships were given to children and wards of party people, some of whose parents had never seen a cocoa tree in their lifes.

This Anokye guy is spewing falsehood.Nana Prempeh collaborated with Nkrumah on a number of educational projects including making vast lands available for different kinds of institutions, Teacher training colleges, , Technical schoolssecondary schools and university. The visionary Nana, was unhappy with his subjects tropping to the south, primarily Accra and Cape Coast for education and he embarked on a crusade to found secondary schools in conjunction with the missionaries and the government. Prempeh College, Opoku Ware, St Louise are some of them. Anokye's accounts do not jive with what those of us who lived in the 40's 50's and 60's witnessed.

@Gyatse, you are taking things out of context. That said, what sort of goddamn achievement is it, if he provided pieces of land for a handful of schools in Kumasi, considering the fact that the whole of Brong Ahafo were part of the Ashanti Region? And, in the grand scheme of things, is this some kind of remarkable achievement to be applauded?
And, to cap it all, he was the same pompous prat who complained that "" with the sort of enlightenment and education Nkrumah was unleashing on the rural folk in
Ashanti, he will find it hard to find an umbrella carrier". The mist bizarre and oxymoronic thing any chosen leader with progressive mindset can ever utter in public. Condescending supercilious arrogance was taken to higher height by him.

Any tall Ashanti man, woman, girl or boy you see on the street are not the true breed of the Ashantis. They are diminitive with short arms and legs. Most of them are into shoe shining business all over the sub-region of West Africa. If you are a tall man they will force their women on you and aftert having children with them, one day they will just kill and take all your chidlren away and name them with Ahanti names. Their women are mostly prostitutes who sleep all over the place. Very dirty and they don't take good care of themselves and alsways smelling. They also have fowl mouth, they will insult at the least provocation without looking back. These are the people who made the life of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's life unbearable. We have sat in classroom with them and the only thing they are good at to travel outside the country and if they get the chance of traveling they don't do anything meaningful about their lives and when they pay a visit home one can hear them bragging that their containers are at the port and they will be going for it, the next moment they vanish. These are the type of people we have who for ages have become a torn in our political leaders who wish to change the destiny of this country. They are very good at spewing lies about people thereby destroying innocent people for good. Once they target you, nothing can change their mine about you until they are done with you.

@Ebentree, one correction, Tetteh Quarshie, was not the first man who brought cocoa to Ghana as we were taught. That is wrong. Now, the Portuguese, who brought us Plantain, Cassava, Papaya, Mango, Tomatoes etc also brought cocoa. Trouble is, they were planted in the coastal regions,as a result, they failed. Tetteh Quarshie, had the foresight to plant his cocoa in the the right area, that is why he succeeded, but he was not the first person to who brought cocoa to Gold Coast/Ghana. Even, slaves come back such as Alexander Worthy Clerk and Co did bring cocoa from
Jamaica to Ghana decades before that of Tetteh Quarshie. Do not get me wrong, I admire Mr Quarshie enormously for his remarkable achievement and foresight but he was not the first. Indisputable fact!

This man is not telling the whole truth or he's purposefully distorting the facts.
In the run-up to the February 1951 legislative election, the first general election to be held under universal franchise in colonial Africa, Kwame Nkrumah campaigned in the cocoa growing areas including Asante state on the platform that he will increase the purchase price of cocoa when elected as head of government business.
The people of Asante state, who were then predominantly cocoa farmers, bought into that promise and voted massively and en-masse for Nkrumah. However, when Nkrumah assumed the post of head of government business after the elections, the prices of cocoa were rather decreased to the shock and disappointment of the cocoa farmers.
Prominent members of the CPP urged Kwame Nkrumah as a matter of urgency and common courtesy to visit with the cocoa growing areas and explain to them why he couldn't honour his promise to increase the price of cocoa. Kwame Nkrumah flatly refused to do that.
The Asante cocoa farmers, chiefs and people felt that Kwame Nkrumah lied to them during the campaign time. They felt insulted by Nkrumah's conduct. They felt Nkrumah tricked and used them for his own personal political gains. That's where Asantes in general bailed out of Kwame Nkrumah and his CPP. It has nothing to do with CMB scholarship scheme.
The National Liberation Movement (NLM) was subsequently formed in Kumasi in 1954 by disgruntled members of CPP to serve as a competing force to Nkrumah's CPP. Nkrumah's response to the formation of NLM was to pass a repressive law to ban the NLM, imprison, destool and chase away chiefs in Asante state. This further widened the wedge between the two factions.
Let's learn to speak the truth to the children.

Just see the way and manner these Ashanti women are always disgracing themselves on the airwaves, even their so-called men of God are not being left out. They fornicate with girls at any time, they are just like rabits. I feel embarrased anytime i hear them speak about opposite sex on their airwaves. They actually have no shame saying things that no normal human being will do. Sex openly is just their way of life. Their men also are lazy. You will often see them playing draft and are always envious of others who are striving to make it in life. Largely, the men are being looked after by their women even including buying panties for them. How can a man ask his wife to give herself to another man for sex and then both turn round to implicate the innocent at the chief's palace. Moreover, their women do about claiming they are not married. Cheating is their trademark. Their chiefs thought they can swindle Dr. Nkrumah by implicating him, but the man was sharp in his mind, he should have jailed all of them. These are very horrible people who have no shame at all.

@Anony.....no wonder you haven't got the chutzpah to use your name or a decent moniker. From 6th March -1957 - 6th March 1960 can be classified by any right thinking person as three years. There was a general election held in Ghana in July 1960. JB Traitor Danquah contested and again he was duly rejected by the decent people of Ghana just as he was rejected in 1954& 1956 elections. Of course, disgruntled wankers
like you and your ilk cannot even count. It was in 1964 that Ghana was declared a One Party State. Then again, shameless wankers such as Akufo Addo, do not have any qualms kowtowing to One Party State Communist China for loans. Nkrumah, was called a a communist by hopeless Busia when he sought help from them in the
sixties, yet the Danquah Busia Detritus have no qualms running to them today. Shameless bunch of complete tossers!

Those of us in the south, if you visit the Ashanti region and you make acquittance with some of them, their main interest is to visit the south to have the feel of the sea. They always assume that the waves coming from the sea boil and what they do is first, they will place one of their legs into waves that are coming ashore to feel if it actually boils. Next, as the waves are coming, you will hear them murmuring some words to coincide with the noise the waves are making. That is where when their children go on excursions at the south most of them end up drowning in the sea. Therefore, one can conclude that these are bunch of people who are by nature are not enlightened and they always think they are the best when it comes to issues concerning nation Ghana, they always want to have everything to themselves. Just look at the NPP itself, Bawumia is being prevailed upon to choose an Ashanti.
