Please read the article again. The father reiterated that the school called him at least 3 times before calling his wife. The question to ask is, "Why didn't he pick the call?" Could it be that the headmistress needed for pertinent information or permission from him before taking the girl to the hospital? Though it is unfortunate that the father lost his daughter, l still believe that if he had picked the headmistress call earlier, the story would have been difference. The reason why it is call a "Mobile Phone" is that, you carry it with you wherever you go due to emergency situations. This must be a lesson to all who refuse to pick up their calls. You may not know who is calling, or the purpose of the calling until you pick it up. A word to the wise is "IN THE NORTH." Lol!

The headmistress and the house mistress should be held liable. In most of the schools when our wards complain about their health issues, they usually do not care for the reason that they might not be lying.
Some must be done.

You are so right! From the man's own narration, it seems there is enough blame to go around. We all know schools in Ghana don't call you because your child is an excellent student. The man probably just didn't want to be bothered! I know of a similar situation where a man who didn't want to be bothered later turned to accuse his wife of not letting him know that their daughter was sick in school. Luckily for them, it wasn't a deadly situation and their daughter came out okay. We send our kids to school to learn, but we are still the ones ultimately responsible for their welfare and should be in no way distant from that responsibility!

The school DOESN'T NEED permission from parents to send her to the hospital in an emergency situation because at the moment she is in school, the responsibility lies squarely with the school. As soon as she's not feeling well and it's established they couldn't account for what's happening to her, she should be taken immediately to the hospital and the parents informed and asked to come to the hospital.
I don't pick calls nowadays if I don't know who it's coming from as you can get hacked just picking a call! There's a lot of hacking attempts actually in Ghana.

Since when did a boarding school require permission or special information from a parent before sending a seriously sick child to the hospital. What if the parents are resident in the Upper Regions or outside the country. Would they still be required to rush down and pick the child to hospital. The school authorities have a responsibility to the children, the parents and the tax payers of Ghana, whose money is used to pay them. A similar incident occurred in a popular school in the Ashanti Region, when a house mistress caused the death of a student under similar circumstances. Apparently, the matter was swept under the carpet. This is a case that boarders on criminal negligence and action must be taken to deter such evil acts in the future. Think deeply when defending the indefensible.

Sad story indeed. I'm deeply worried that for over 24 hours, no official statement from the school or GES has come out to clarify issues.
These teachers sometimes become overly protective and put the lives of innocent kids into danger. Just send the child to the hospital. Why do you call the father?. Is he a medical doctor?. Even if he one, the place of the child at this point should be at the hospital. Teachers These days panic with little things from these young students. In the olden days most later day teachers would have run away from their students. Students of today are very young and will need extra care for them to achieve their full potential.

How sure are we that the School authorities had not already previously given her medical attention before she probably later got worse and they had to send for her parents? Ask yourself also that in which girls school will a male visitor be allowed into a dormitory to pick his sick child lying on a floor with a teacher and friends sitting over her? Something in the story doesn't add up. Let us seek the full details before we judge. May her sweet soul rest in peace.

Everyone is very angry at what has happened as this is a needless senseless lost of life. But to analyze this from the fathers narrative:
1. When they had finally reached his wife why did he not implicitly instruct the headmistress to take the child to the hospital and you were on your way? How many minutes or hours were between the 3 calls?
2. The child under care is a patient and has right to refuse treatment, if the child says I want my parents to come pick me who are the school authorities to bundle her to the hospital against her wish. They would have been facing same.
3. I say this respectfully, if this girl is JW and they would require transfusion would it not be prudent the authorities get a green light before getting sued on religious ground. A woman in Spain has taken Dr’s who saved her life to court for not letting her die instead of the transfusing her with blood.
The headmistress might have been trying to be careful but ended up in the same hole anyways.
Until we hear the school’s side of the story I will not be quick to cast blames.
May her soul rest with the Lord.
