Divestiture Of Bonsa Tyre & GIHOC

DIVESTITURE
IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE (DIC)

Divestiture Of:
• Bonsa Tyre Company
• GIHOC Footwear Factory
• GIHOC Glass Factory
INTRODUCTION
As part of its Divestiture Programme, which started over two decades ago, the Government of Ghana, through the Divestiture Implementation Committee DIC) has place the following Companies on divestiture namely;(a) Bonsa Tyre Company,(b) GIHOC Glass Company and(c) GIHOC Footwear Company on Divestiture
The divestiture of the three entities has been advertised for the submission of proposals by interested investors.
The procedure for expressing interest in each of the aforementioned assets is as follows:
1. Purchase and complete Registration of Interest Forms
which cost US$300.00.

2. The DIC will provide guidelines for the preparation of
the Business Plan.

Details of the three companies are presented hereunder:

BONSA TYRE COMPANY LIMITED(BTCL).

BACKGROUND:
Bonsa Tyre Company Limited (BTCL) was established in 1963 to manufacture automobile tyres. At its inception Firestone acquired 60% stake in it, and the remainder 40% was maintained by the Government of Ghana. In 1981 Firestone sold its 60% state to the Government of Ghana.
In 1990 the company underwent revitalization under the “Bonsa Tyre Rehabilitation Project with a US$30.7 million credit facility and Dunlop as the Technical Consultant.
LOCATION:
BTCL is located at Bonsaso in Western Region of Ghana, 16 Kilometers South of Tarkwa on the main Takoradi/Tarkwa road. Bonsaso is an agricultural community with a population of 8,000.
they are involved in rubber, oil palm and food crop farming as well as small scale mining.


CAPACITY:

BTLC has capacity to produce 1,230 tyres and 960 inner tubes a day. It also produces retread compounds and rubber cement for tyres retreading and various diversified rubber products. There is also extra factory space for expansion.

ASSETS:

The assets of BTLC can be classified into two property types:
(a). Industrial Landed Property
(b). Recreational/Residential Property.

The two property types occupy a land area of 157.79 acres acquired on 99 years lease from the Government of Ghana – in 1968.

The lease is remarkable by the Government of Ghana for 50 years for a new investor.

It is worth nothing that there are some minor defects on the properties but the structural condition is good. This therefore, requires some repairs/rehabilitation and redecoration.

GIHOC FOOTWEAR FACTORY

BACKGROUND:
The GIHOC Footwear Factory was established in the early 1960’s under President Kwame Nkrumah’s seven-year Development Plan.

LOCATION:
It is located along the Lake Road in Chirapatre Layout of the Kumasi Metropolis of Ashanti Region.

CAPACITY:
The Factory had initial installed capacity of 601,000 pairs of assorted footwear per annum on a sixteen (16) hour double shift system schedule.

ASSET:
The factory has a total of ten (10) sites comprising industrial and residential facilities/properties covering a total of 35.75 acres within a catchment area.

GIHOC GLASS FACTORY.

BACKGROUND:

The GIHOC Glass Factory complex was established in 1964. A few of its additional structures were however constructed between the late 1970’s and 1980’s.

LOCATION:

It is situated along the main Tarkwa-Aboso road, about 1.5 km south of the Aboso township in the Western region of Ghana. The factory is close to the railway line connecting Huni Valley and Tarkwa.
CAPACITY:
The glass bottle manufacturing plant has been structured into three sections, namely:
• The Batch Section.
• Bottle Production Section.
• Bottle Printing Section.
• Machinery/Equipment.

Each section is equipped with highly structural plant, machinery, equipment and accessories.

Assets of the company comprises of Industrial and residential properties.
