FDB asks to reconsider the ban of tsofi

Adoagyiri (E/R), June 17, GNA - Nana Adjoa Mansa I, Queen Mother of Asona Clan at Adoagyiri, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region, has appealed to the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) to rescind the decision to ban the sale of Turkey tail (Tsofi).

Nana Mansa, who is also the Chairperson of the Akuapem South Turkey Tail Traders Association, who made the appeal during a meeting of members at Adoagyiri on Thursday, said the sale of tsofi is the sole livelihood of women in the area.

She said through the sale of tsofi, the traders have been able to finance the education of their children and pay their utility bills. Nana Mansa disputed the health reasons attributed to the ban of tsofi, saying after 33 years of brisk business in the product, the community had not recorded any health problems associated with its consumption. "Selling of tsofi is our only source of income and banning it will drive us to the cities in search of non-existing jobs," she said.
