Curfew on Bawku and Gushegu renewed

Accra, May 26, GNA - The Ministry of the Interior has on the advice of the Upper East and Northern Regional Security Councils, renewed the curfews imposed on the Bawku Municipality and Gushegu township and their immediate environs for another week with effect from May 25. A statement in Accra signed by Mr Cletus Avoka, Minister of the Interior, said the curfew hours remained unchanged from 12.00 midnight to 4.00 am each day.

The government appealed to all stakeholders, including chiefs, elders and opinion leaders to embrace the peace initiatives that had been embarked upon to foster harmony among the various factions. "The current situation brings a new dawn of hope that lasting peace will return to the Bawku Municipality and Gushegu township soon," the statement said.

Meanwhile, government is maintaining the ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipal area, Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga, Zoasi and Gushegu townships and their environs from carrying arms, ammunitions or any offensive weapon. Any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
