Re: Floodgates Opened to Foreign Textiles

What about the blood-sucker GHACEM? Why has succesive governts shied away from demonopolising its operations in Ghana even though it is incapable of supplying the cement needs of the building industry at a reasonable cost to the public? Our former President, Rawlings and his ministers were bedmates of GHACEM to the extent that it later came out after they left office that former president Rawlings and P.V. Obeng in particular benefitted immensely from GHACEM. P.V Obeng, a minister of state was bold to tell Ghanaians that he was one time a consultant for GHACEM. President Kuffour's administration also came and started prostituting with GHACEM. I really do not understand this. I think if this publication about the textiles industry is true then government must also in the same vein demonopolise GHACEM so that others can enter into the import trade of cement. In this way the competition will result in a check on the prevailing price of cement which the average Ghanaian is not able to afford.
