MEDIA STATEMENT

CJA LEADERS MEET GREATER ACCRA REGIONAL POLICE COMMAND

The Committee for Joint Action (CJA) confirms that its “Ye wuo” demonstration will come on as scheduled tomorrow, Tuesday, December 11, 2007.

This confirmation follows a meeting between the leadership of the CJA and the Greater Accra Regional Police Command in Accra this afternoon between 2:00 and 2:30pm.

At the meeting, both sides pledged to work for a peaceful demonstration and to eschew all acts likely to undermine the enjoyment of the human and constitutional rights of citizens.

The Police Command assured the CJA leadership that it has taken steps to ensure that no group will organize a counter demonstration. It said only the CJA has complied with the Public Order Law and therefore it is the only group which can legitimately and legally organize a demonstration tomorrow Tuesday 11 December, 2007.

The CJA announces for the information of its supporters and the general public that demonstrators are expected to arrive at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in their red attires between 6:30 and 7:00am.

The CJA welcomes the announcement by the Co-founder and Diaspora Chairman of the Ghana National Party (GNP), Mr. Kwaku Danso, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President Jerry John Rawlings that they will participate in the demonstration.

We invite all the democratic and progressive forces to join the demonstration.

Electronically signed, Kwesi Pratt Jnr.
